So Ed Norton Might Appear as Hulk in Avengers After All?
We've been running a lot of speculative articles recently, and we have yet another for you today. In this one, though, I think I'm reading between the lines a little too much. IGN caught up with Edward Norton at the Television Critics Association press event and asked him the inevitable question about the Hulk appearing in Marvel's Avengers movie. This time, though, his answer was a bit different than anything we've heard before. "I probably won't comment on that, just because they [Marvel] keep a pretty tight reign on what they are letting out. I'll let them say," he replied. Is there hope that he's in it and wants to let them announce it?
Or is he just saying that he wants to let Marvel announce themselves that there's no Hulk in Avengers? I'm personally hoping it's the former. In Kevin Feige's most recent interview from from Comic-Con, he talks about the line-up for The Avengers, and mentions "there will be some members of the Hulk universe in the film as well." Of course, we can turn to any number of past articles where Hulk is brought up, like this one where Mark Fergus talks about having Hulk, or this one where Favreau lets slip that Hulk is in the line-up, or this one where Louis Leterrier talks about the end of Hulk being open for continuations of the character.
Of course, I could just be reading between the lines too much, and I'm probably doing that just because I really want to see Edward Norton back as Hulk in The Avengers. The reason why this is such big news and always a shock to hear is because, I believe, Norton kept saying he wasn't sure if he'd return (after doing The Incredible Hulk) and that there were other issues with bringing Hulk into the Marvel Studio's Universe. But who knows what's really going on behind closed doors? We'll find out the truth soon enough. But in the meantime, should we start getting excited about seeing Hulk in Avengers after all? What do you think?

Ed norton better appear in avengers as the hulk or it would be a joke! His hulk movie was decent.

Why wouldn't he even be in The Avengers? It would be a waste.
Xerxex on Aug 3, 2009
Unless Marvel wants a fan backlash that could evry well affect all their other movies, they better not even think of replacing Norton. No one is going a accept another actor change for Hulk.

I didn't really care for any of the Hulk movies. Hard to feel for a character who is as dumb as a 2 year old, and Bruce Banner just whines about his condition. Avengers already has too many characters - leave Hulk out of this one.

I think it would be cool. His Hulk movie was ok. At the end when he is meditating, he shows that he now has control over the Hulk. That is the Hulk that was in the Avengers. Albeit a little bit of a dimwit, but that is because he is filled with so much rage, it is hard from him to hear the voice of reason and or common sense.
Seth on Aug 3, 2009
It doesn't really matter if he is or not - as long as Zak "The Hak" Penn is still writing The Avengers, it will be a total waste of time and money to go see, regardless of who is or isn't in it.

if the Hulk is not in The Avengers movie everyone from comicbook fanboys and general public will be pissed off and Marvel Studio need to bring back Edward Norton

HE'D BETTER! You can't have The Hulk in the movie without Banner - And Norton did a fantastic job with that - Made the duality between Banner/The Hulk complete - Setup as a film, that just wouldn't flow well if he wasn't. To have Hulk be a part of the avengers, you need Banner's "permission" to allege with the Avengers, and not just have him 'Appear' - it just wouldn"t sit right. From what I gained from the ending of hulk, it seems that the avengers would be put together to take on the Hulk then eventually convincing him to join them to face something bigger and badder. Plus, Norton's answer is a smart one. With all the bullshit he dealt with during production, concerning the script, he's keeping himself from getting bit in the ass by Marvel(again) if he says too much.

I think Norton did a good job as the Hulk, he's a really good actor. I would like to see him in the Avengers.

I personally loved that incredible HULK movie that Norton made, Ive seen it about 6 times already, it just has such great parts in it and even tho its a little CGI overload at the end its still one of my fav marvel movies to date. I think if Ed Norton had no stake in it and was still upset about production issues with the HULK movie he wouldn't have any problem saying hes not in it or something worse, so I think its a good sign that he said that. As far as the Avengers movie goes tho, I'm not really buying into it all just quite yet. Its almost so much that its too much you know? We'll just have to wait and see. Is it going to be like a trilogy or just one long ass movie with way too much going on?

Oh man, I can't tell you how much I want the Hulk as a part of the Avengers. The Hulk makes the Avengers complete!

ALERT.....ALERT.....ALERT..... Guys, I think the noise we made on the other thread regarding the Hulk, may have made a difference. NOT! Who knows. Maybe they are going to have the Hulk in it but just want to keep a little mystery involved in the project. No one knows. The bottom line is... without Hulk, there is no grand Avengers movie. We all know that.

Hey Alex, you probably saw already but I wrote about this with some neat theories involving IM2 & Avengers yesterday - check it out: http://screenrant.com/edward-norton-hulk-iron-man-2-avengers-rob-19849/

I for one will be pissed if they don't get Norton back as Banner/Hulk for the Avengers. How can you have Stark show up at the end of The Incredible Hulk talking about putting a team together, and then never follow up on that at all? For now though, I'm quite excited at the recent rumor of Norton having a cameo in Iron Man 2 as both Banner AND Hulk...that would be a hell of a treat. They need to have as many crossover elements, characters and references as possible in the films leading up to The Avengers. Each of these films tells its own story, but its also important to be building it up as one big franchise in the background that leads to The Avengers. You can't just have all these seperate stories and then bring them all together...having crossover elements throughout the series allows for it all to feel like it belongs together. They did a good job in The Incredible Hulk by having Captain America references, SHIELD involvment, Stark Industries and Nick Fury references(in the opening credits) and of course the awesome Tony Stark cameo at the end. They need to keep this up as best they can in Iron Man 2, Thor could be referenced via imagery or dialogue, the great thing about Thor is that he is a Norse god thats pretty commonly known of, so it wouldn't feel forced to have some sort of reference to him in IM2, Stark could by a painting of him or something. And of course Banner/Hulk should at the very least be referenced to some degree, but it would of course be much better to have a cameo. More Captain America references could be made as well.

I want Hulk both in The Avengers and Iron Man 2. Edward Norton is a great actor. The only problem with The Avengers is that there are to many heroes and villains and I think it will end up just like Watchmen(hope not).

The doubt comes from the fact Norton is the only one that didn't signa contract keeping him for anything. It was a one movie contract unlike Downey, Jackson, and others. DOwney has like a 4 movie contract I though meaning you kenw there was going to be another Iron Man and Avengers. Norton did not do this so no one figured he'd be in Avengers. Doubt also comes in, because fanboys are idiots and forget that Hollywood doesn't care how a story goes, they'll do what they want. lol

ok wait can someone explain to me what is the continuing beef between Ed and Marvel? Why is Ed not really sure of returning as the HULK? From what I recall during the final months of the making I did read that there was some beef about how the ending would be. I believe MARVEL had their way, am I right? some please correct me or fill me in, thanks Secondly, I agree with a lot of you. If the AVENGERS do not include HULK that would like not having GL or WW in JLA in my opinion. Marvel would receive such heavy bad responses from the fan base, I can not fathom the thought that the HULK would not appear. Shit goes back to the article that come out a few days back about only having 4 characters in the flick. anyway big mistake MARVEL, don't pull a FOX/SONY move with your own characters

I quite enjoyed Ed & his Hulk movie. Thought it was terribly underrated aktually.

Stark proposes to Ross that he might have a solution to his "problem" at the end of Inc. Hulk. This could mean that they tie it off by having Bruce in a containment cell built by Stark for Ross, possibly, so no need for him to Hulk out much. In the comics they usually capture Banner & contain him to get some use out of his scientific genius so - he'll gain some sympathy from Stark, for sure. Incredible Hulk was action packed, & Hulk looked great any time he wasn't in Broad Daylight. (again, Photography 101. Nothing looks good in mid-day light.) It's good to see Favreau is committed to bringing the Marvel Universe to the screen. Moves like this guarantee that he'll be first pick to direct Avengers.

I actually really liked the last Hulk movie and would really like to see Edward Norton return. Like Scott said another new actor for the Hulk? I think that is a bad idea. Bring Norton back.

In Avengers Eric Bana should reprise his role as the Hulk.
