Stephen Colbert Predicts This Year's Oscars

Everyone's favorite Comedy Central talk show host, Stephen Colbert, has predicted the Oscar winners this year, which, as he says, is "not bad considering I never seen any of the movies, I just look at the posters when I'm outside of the theater protesting." So how does he do it? Well, he uses The DaColbert Code, which is his power to find patterns where none exist. Colbert predicts: Penelope Cruz will win Best Supporting Actress, Kate Winslet will win Best Actress, Heath Ledger will win Best Supporting Actor, Mickey Rourke will win Best Actor, and Slumdog Millionaire will win Best Picture. Those sound about right to you?

Watch Stephen Colbert predict the Oscars:

The Oscars are one thing we haven't brought up much since the nominations were announced, which is why I couldn't be happier to break the ice on that topic with Colbert himself. To be honest, I think he nailed them. I do expect Slumdog to take home the top prize and as for the actors and actresses, Rourke and Ledger are shoo-ins, I'm just not sure about Winslet and Cruz. Although I could certainly see both of them winning as well, especially Winslet, even though I personally don't think she deserves it (for The Reader). Thanks to our friends at Geeks of Doom for first finding this video! Do you agree with his predictions?

I hate that guy, hes so annoying .. Well.. About the predictions.. I hope Rourke, Winslet and Cruz dont win :/ In my opinion theres a better choice in each category. Its almost certain that Ledger is going to win his oscar, even I think its a bit sad. He was great, but dont know if he would have gotten the recognition for it if he wasnt dead. Well anyways hope we see some surprises!

Rourke is far from a shoo-in. He's probably the underdog because the only major award he has won up to this point is the Golden Globe (and we all know how reliable they are). Rourke defenitly has a legitimate shot but for Penn to lose would be an upset. It just wouldn't be a huge upset.

HAHA!! Suck it, Milk!!

First of all, Max, your comment about Ledgers performance was assinine. I cant say he wont win the award because he passed away but I can say that doesnt mean its strictly because of that. Ledgers performance(without going all fanboy on you) was great no matter what stand point youre judging from and the other nominies might be worthy but their performances were not nearly as risky as Ledgers was... he took a giant gamble playing the character that way and it payed off... thats why he should win, not because hes dead. Second of all, Slumdog should win for one simple truth... not because its the best picture of the year but because its the best picture of the year that got nominated by the academy. Third of all, Rourke should win but will get robbed the same way Nolan and Aronofsky were robbed from best diretor noms. Finally, The Oscars are a complete joke and The Academy is a bunch of frauds. I really dont understand WHY we consider this award show in such high standards when year after year they disapoint not only in selections but even the nominations they never seem to get right.

that was funny...I think he might be right but I still think Sean Penn might win for Milk, but it definitely comes down to Rourke and Penn.

#4 You are the love of my life.

no 4, max is right. First of all, dont get me wrong, i believe Leadgers performance was the best of the year, and that some would have recognized him for it, but the academy sucks. If he wasn't dead he wouldnt have this much of a clear shot.

Though I've not seen this posted elsewhere, today over at Huffington Post, there's a link to an article at nymag dot com which lists Nate Silver's predictions, based entirely on statistical models which he's most famous for. (He successfully predicted the outcome of the 2008 Presidential election). Very interesting stuff!

$4 - I completely agree. Ledger would have gotten nominated even if he was alive. No other supporting performace this year came close to what he achieved with the character. I would also give it to Slumdog Millionaire because its the best out of those 5 choices. Unfortunately this years oscar-picks are as boring and safe as ever when they could have made it a year of great change.

sorry, #4.

My bet's on Sean Penn and Meryl Streep.

idc really about the predictions. it was more amusing to me than actual predictions. but what is the title given to colbert as "everybody's favorite comedy central talk show host". seeing as there is only one other i can think of off the top of my head, i'm wondering is that a shot at jon stewart? Jon stewart gets no respect. much is made of the star list of daily show correspondents that have made fantastic careers through the daily show: steve carell, stephen colbert, ed helms, larry wilmore, demetri martin, dave attel, rob corddry, and rob riggle among many others. I'm just wondering aloud, is it me or does jon stewart get no respect?

I agree with 13, without Jon Stuart all of those other guys, including Colbert especially, would be nobodys.
