Sundance Interview: 500 Days of Summer Director Marc Webb
by Alex Billington
January 20, 2009
Everyone has already heard about 500 Days of Summer by now, the film that is well on its way to becoming the breakout hit of Sundance this year. First-time director Marc Webb is one of the key people (obviously) that made it such a brilliant film. What he was able to do with it and turn it into is why it's becoming such a beloved indie gem. Ever since I first saw it was showing at Sundance, Webb was one of the filmmakers I really wanted to interview while I was out here, in order to talk about his filmmaking process. Luckily I had that opportunity yesterday and the resulting interviewed turned out fantastic.

As you see above, I'm trying a new format for interviews at Sundance this year using my Flip Mino. In addition to this interview with Marc, I have separate interviews with both of the film's wonderful stars -- Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel -- that will be published in a few days, so stay tuned for those as well. I hope you found the interview as fascinating to watch as I did to talk with Marc. I can confidently says he's a director on his way to becoming someone very big. 500 Days of Summer will finish playing here at Sundance and hit theaters on July 24th this upcoming summer.
Excellent interview, quite eager now to see the Zooey and Joe interviews.

Outstanding! There's an understated humbleness to him.. great to see he's able to make the movies he's passionate about.

Good interview. He really came around and got into the interview and it was intriguing to see him get so passionate and engaged in just talking about his movie.
