Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan Update - New Script Almost Done

Jack Ryan

With that story about George Clooney from last week, it seems as if Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan is back in the mainstream conscious once again. As we mentioned in that article, Paramount hired Killshot screenwriter Hossein Amini last year to write a new Jack Ryan screenplay for them to turn into a franchise. Anne Thompson (via Variety) provides a small update on the project, saying that Amini is due to turn in the first draft of an original screenplay currently called the Untitled Tom Clancy Project. Paramount is working with Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura to develop the feature but it's still very early on.

We don't know much more about this, but I did hear from an anonymous tipster that Ryan Gosling has been Paramount's top choice for Jack Ryan for a few years now. However, Thompson did add that, "Yes, Clooney has been discussed for Jack Ryan." Obviously they're not going to officially cast anyone until the script is in and they have a director. But they could go in the younger direction with Gosling or a bit older with Clooney. The best way to end this today is with a great set of discussion points from Thompson: "Are Tom Clancy movies out of date? Too 80s? Am I the only one who still adores The Hunt for Red October?"

Would love to see a Without Remorse or Rainbow Six movie.

I'm with you DS, that would be amazing. Now all we need is a Brad Thor novel adapted into a film!!!!

I always wanted to see Debt of Honor and the next four books made in to movies but considering that the ending is so much like 9/11 that will never happen. The end of Debt of Honor is the most epic cliffhanger ever. They probably would have changed the movie because you can't end on such a down note but still. Rainbow Six would be awesome.

Here here, with the exception of Sum of All Fears (which was about as far from the spirit of the novel as a film can get), I have enjoyed TC films -- HFRO most of all. I wouldn't mind seeing any of the books done up.

I'm a big fan of Karl Urban and think he did a great job as McCoy in Star Trek. How about him as Jack Ryan?

Completely agree with DS.

without remorse was not a jack ryan book technically, but it would be awesome, they would need to change how the drugs are smuggled into the country to make it different than american gangster.

Ugh. Screenwriter from Killshot? The screenplay from that movie was its worst aspect. I'd even go to say it was the only aspect that kept it from being good. The horrendous storytelling.
