Trailer for Jeremy Piven's The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard

May 28, 2009

The Goods Trailer

From the guys that brought you Talladega Nights and Step Brothers, comes the newest half-assed comedy that no one will laugh at. The trailer for The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard, starring Jeremy Piven, has debuted over on AOL. You know, as much as I love Jeremy Piven, this is exactly the kind of comedy that I hate seeing. But that's just me, and I expect everyone else to have their own opinions on this, so have at it, I don't mind, it's just not my thing. Maybe I'm being too harsh, maybe, but this feels a bit too much like a low level comedic knockoff of Thank You for Smoking, but without the brains. Give it a shot anyway and enjoy!

Who is Don Ready? Salesman? Lover? Song Stylist? Semi-professional dolphin trainer? Ready is all of the above, except for a dolphin trainer. When he's asked to help save an local car dealership from bankruptcy, Ready and his crew descend on the town of Temecula like a pack of coyotes on a basket full of burgers.

The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard is directed by first-time filmmaker Neal Brennan, of only some episodes of "Chappelle's Show" and the TV movie Totally Awesome previously. The screenplay was co-written by newcomers Andy Stock and Rick Stempson. Paramount will debut The Goods in theaters on August 14th.

Guaranteed to be better than the movie with baby with sun glasses and Mike Tyson.

I hate Jeremy Piven with a fucking passion, so I hope this tanks.

Film Fan on May 28, 2009

#1 Really?, Your joking right?

Jay on May 28, 2009

Neal Brennan was Dave Chappelle's writing partner on Half Baked and they wrote almost all the Chappelle's Show skits by themselves. That said, neither of them wrote this and despite the cast list, it does seem pretty half-assed.

Mark on May 28, 2009

What was wrong with Talladega Nights?!!

S on May 28, 2009

Piven rocks!!!! I'm sold!!!!!

Lazarus on May 28, 2009

Not even sure what this movie is about.

jerms on May 28, 2009

"The newest half-assed comedy no one will laugh at" seems a little hardcore. What is with this day of FirstShowing being hardcore. First, with the MUST SEE for the Perfect Vacation movie then lambasting this one when it's clearly got laughable gags to it. I laughed at the bank bag/exploding ink bit, does that make me a no one? Try and draw some grey in with the black and white. It's fine saying you don't like it, but don't make others feel like losers if they chuckle.

b on May 28, 2009

Jeremy Piven is the man!!!!

tankmaster on May 28, 2009

I laughed. This looks like it'll be entertaining.

Adam on May 28, 2009

Liked the scene on the plane but the rest looks like been there, done that kind of comedy. And not the good kind either.

Moviegimp on May 28, 2009

The writer and producer of this movie had nothing to do wit Step Brothers or Talladega nights.

DDD on May 28, 2009

#7, well, judging by the title, and the fact that Jeremy Piven's character seems to be hired to sell stuff for people... I'd say its about a guy who's good at selling shit... So, thats whats its gonna be about... Huh... Weird... Never would have got that from the trailer...

nate on May 28, 2009

#8 - I agree that it will probably have some funny moments, and Alex's statement was a little harsh, but I'd also be willing to bet that the trailer will cover most if not all of said funny moments. I was genuinely excited to see Step Brothers after seeing the trailer only to discover that the trailer contained all the film had to offer (see also: Be Kind Rewind, almost any Will Ferrell film, etc etc). Furthermore, on a conceptual level both films appear to have had about the same amount of effort put into them, using plot to merely move the audience from joke to joke, hence half-assed. To me, on the surface, this is just a small collection of "laughable gags" with nothing holding it together. But hey, trailers can help bad movies and hurt good ones, so we'll just have to see.

Mark on May 28, 2009

The website has the restricted trailer which is 20x more funnier Jeremy Piven fucking OWNS!

Bryan on May 28, 2009

this movie looks hysterical, that cast is great. don ready?.. sold me.

sorr on May 28, 2009

I agree with #15, the red band trailer is even better.

Boxoffice Marco on May 28, 2009

This looks stupid, pass.

nem on May 28, 2009

Piven kicks ass. And yes the movie with the baby looks fucking terrible. Duh... Am I missing a tooth? Yeah, I think I'll put shades on a baby like we're cool. Bad cast, bad story line, bad fucking movie, I hope that one tanks.

clippers350 on May 28, 2009

lol finally a good quality (watchable ) trailer !!

PinkSushi on May 28, 2009

piven does kick ass but this looks like a bad comedy.

cat on May 28, 2009

movie of the year, avatar you have met your match!

brian barajas on May 28, 2009

NEVER AGAIN!! hahahaha

Roberto Dinamite on May 28, 2009

I love Piven but I'll definitely wait for Netflix. Using Talladega and Step Brothers to promote was the final decision for me to say NO.

LSP on May 28, 2009

I nailed the last line in the restricted trailer. Don't know whether that's awesome or I'm fairly certain I could have written this screenplay.

Mr Blume on May 28, 2009

this movie looks raw and offensive and funny, but it's just taken forever to come out. i think it's been sitting around for almost 2 years. the hangover does not look funny to me. i normally really like zac galanakis, but i'm not sold on bradley cooper yet. all the posters for that movie are too polished for it to feel raw. and the concept isnt that hilarious. dude where's my car and what happens in vegas were fine movies. no need to combine the two. however, the goods is the kind of comedy they don't make anymore. like grandma's boy.

musicsoup on May 28, 2009

Who is playing the stewardess on airplane? I seen the girl somewhere but I can't recall where 🙁

xMort on May 29, 2009

The stewardess is Kristen Schaal, who plays Mel in The Flight of The Conchords TV show. She's a genius.

mrbobbyboy on May 29, 2009

doesn't seem too bad and I'm not sure why you would compare this move to thank you for smoking.

chris on May 29, 2009

LOL! That looks good. Piven is awesome! However... this is an even better version, RED BAND TRAILER!!! Enjoy!

K on May 29, 2009

it reminds me of the movie Used Cars....anybody ever watch that...that shit was funny!

Stan 'The Viewers Choice' Morrow (Facebook me!) on May 29, 2009

yes, you need to check out the restricted version, much this actually better come out Rated R if not it will suck

Blue Orange NY on May 29, 2009

That part about Pearl Harbor and them attacking the asian was fucking funny. Other than that its just ok. I'll check out the red band when not at work.

LOL on May 29, 2009

Hey Billington, For the unfortunate lot of us who don't live in the US of A, can you throw the Red Band Trailer up on FS? Being in Canada sucks as far as this stuff goes. I can't even get fucking Hulu thanks to those tampon eating douchebags at the CRTC. As a country, we just (and I mean JUST) got HBO. The kicker is it's not even real HBO. It's HBO Canada whatever the fuck that is. Can you f'n believe that shit? Anybody wanna sponsor me and my missus to move Stateside? Also, there was a fantastic documentary called "The Slasher" about a guy very much like Piven's character who organizes amazing sales at used car lots all around the country. If you're fortunate enough to catch it, it's highly recommended viewing.

DLM Entertainment on May 29, 2009

The red band trailer was definitely funnier!! I guess I am going to be a "nobody" that laughs while I watch this movie.

Derek on May 29, 2009

#34. I live in Toronto and can view the red band trailer fine. You can't?

K on May 29, 2009

I love Jeremy Piven! He's fucking hilarious. I'm even more in love with him since Entourage. Never have I seen or heard someone use so many racial slurs, bashing people's sexual preferences, or come up with such fantastic insults as "Rusty Cunt Bucket". He was carrying that show as Ari Gold, he can carry this movie, too. He is perfect for rolls like this. Oh, and I agree, the red band trailer is 10 times better than this one. xD

SuicidalOptimist on May 29, 2009

I love Jeremy Piven but that looks terrible

dqniel on May 29, 2009

Didn't want to see it until I watched the red band trailer now I think I'll be checking it out.

CLAW on May 29, 2009

I agree with 39, the red band trailer definitely sold me

Rob on May 29, 2009

#28: Yes, it's her 🙂 Thank you very much. I can rest peacefully now 🙂

xMort on May 29, 2009

Jeremy owns,I wish i could see a movie like Payback with him in the lead role.Something like a change.

Fisherr on May 29, 2009

looks like garbage to me

ClerksFan on May 31, 2009

"i havent been home in a year and a half and im pretty sure i left the front door open" hahahahah i spit out my orange juice on that one

c good on Jun 16, 2009

StepBrothers was easily one of the most popular movies of last year and Talladega Nights also grossed a lot of money. Jeremy Piven stars in HBO's entourage which is arguably one of the best show on television. This should be a pretty good movie.

Harry Balsania on Jun 21, 2009

u obviously didnt see the movie if you didnt even know the name. the hangover was fucking hillarious fyi

a on Jul 16, 2009

Isn't this a racist movie? The employees chant, "Never again! Never again!," as the group's sole Asian-American man chants along uncomfortably. A Caucasian man looks at the Asian-American guy and then angrily yells, "Let's get him!," before smacking him in the face. The other employees proceed to attack the Asian American with punches and kicks. If this is acceptable in america in a movie, can I film a bunch of white guys beating up a black guy and call it a comedy?

racistmovie on Jul 31, 2009

Of course it's possible to film a racist movie! It's part of the bill of rights to speak your mind on any subject no matter how fucked your reasoning is. The only reason why they chose an Asian as the ragdoll of racism is because nobody protects Asians as much as black people. For example, if a bunch of white guys beat up a black person, the NAACP will sue their asses straight to the supreme court. You can call it comedy when everyone picks on a defenseless chinaman. However, it would be even more funny if a movie came out where white people tasted the other end of racism...if a bunch of Asians like Manny Pacquiao beat the shit out of a skrawny white man

definitely on Aug 2, 2009

The only people who could like this movie are rednecks, so if you aren't and you watched this movie, odds are you voted for Bush, or live in texas. There's always someone stupid enough to buy something out there, hell Talladega Nights was about NASCAR the most RETARDED auto sport in existence.

Someonewithtaste on Aug 5, 2009

This movie is going to be f*cking awesome!!!

bill hillis on Aug 5, 2009

But wait, there's MORE!! For the next 30 seconds I have a 1-for-the-price of-2 deal...anyone? ANYone...?

Al Ways Ready on Aug 9, 2009

I love Jeremy Piven and the cast consisits of every great second-string actor out there but I HATE this kind of movie. Why waste all that fabulous comedic timing on a demographic of viewers who laugh at home videos of people getting hit in the genitals?

Momma in MA on Aug 10, 2009

dose anyone know what the song thats played in the trailer is called?

garrett133 on Aug 15, 2009

Fox on the Run, by the Sweet

RO on Mar 6, 2011

How does a dipshit like you get to be a critic? I would think a sense of humor would be required to evaluate a comedy, fucker!Jeremy Pivins ia awesome!

james on Aug 15, 2009

Of course bastards like you would cheer on bullshit movies like this.

definitely on Aug 16, 2009

The song is "Fox on the Run" by "Sweet"

RickP on Aug 16, 2009

I have a theory that you can tell how good a movie is going to be by the trailers they choose to show you while you're waiting for the movie to start. The trailers really SUCKED for this one!

Craig on Aug 22, 2009

Wanton douchebaggery, stupidity, and a lame premise would have been enough to keep me away from this movie, but the racism was NOT FUNNY AT ALL. I hope this movie tanks. Now Paramount is scrambling to cover their tracks, but the damage has already been done. Removing the offensive scene from the trailer won't help, a real apology would be for them to remove it from the movie altogether.
