Universal Making Candy Land Movie with Enchanted Director
by Alex Billington

Candy Land?! Yes, Candy Land! You know, that frickin' board game? Believe it or not, it looks like Universal is going to get a Candy Land feature film made before Ridley Scott makes his Monopoly movie. Universal has hired Tropic Thunder and Sherlock Holmes screenwriter Etan Cohen to write the screenplay and Enchanted director Kevin Lima to direct. Of all the people they could've chosen, Lima is one of two that I actually would've agree'd to and said, "okay, now I see how this could maybe happen." Of course it's going to be cheesy as hell and totally surreal and ridiculous, but we're still going to have a Candy Land movie!
Universal made a deal with Hasbro last February for screen rights to numerous Milton Bradley and other Hasbro franchises. No word on what the actual concept will be, but in the game (I can't believe I'm writing this), players race around a board full of colored squares in order to reach the Candy Castle and King of Kandy. I have a feeling that this isn't going to be adapted like Jumanji or Zathura, but rather like Enchanted where the world, including places like Licorice Castle and Molasses Swamp, comes to life in a trippy adventure of sorts. Does this really need to be made? Well, it could end up being a lot of fun, right?

What the fuck are they trying to accomplish?! Let me guess, Brendan Fraser is going to be the lead. Boo-urns!

Why do you say that it looks like Candy Land will make it to theaters before the Ridley Scott-directed Monopoly movie?

I'm holding out for the Tornado Rex movie.

I can actually get a pretty clear picture of how this will turn out. They're prolly gonna go for a "Bridge to Terebithia" type of thing. Ya know.. hidden magical worlds and such. It'll be a kid/family movie that will end up tolerable at best.

how STONED will I have to be to like this picture?

Has anyone ever thought that this scenario isn't exactly aimed at the adult audience. I don't know, just a guess. Idiots
Dragonballfreak on Feb 5, 2009
they should have given it to Tim Burton, then it'd be interesting to watch. funny this is fantasy turning into reality, not too long ago Robot Chicken was making fun of board games being made into movies and now we see it actually happening.

I gotta say I'm intruiged. As a kid I was enthralled by that area inside Willy Wonka's factory where everything was edible (and wanted to see more of it! boo). So an entire movie about a land of candy, SWEET! (pun intended). I think they should make it kinda scary, like Narnia. Maybe they can hire Tilda Swinton to play the sugar plum fairy. lulz.

I personally love the idea of this and I am twenty six. So boooo on all the haters. I think it will make for a visually stunning production. i also am intrigued as to who they will cast as the different candy characters. keep us update firstshowing!!!

and i though the years of sequels and remakes meant we were out of fresh ideas. but someone honestly had the gonads to look at candy land and say... "i can make a movie out of this childish game and sell it for millions.... MU HAHAHAHA.... candy land is back baby!" (he would have to be an evil master mind to come up with such a money sucking plot hence the maniacal laughing) next comes Chutes and Ladders, Operation, Life, Sorry!, and Clue... then Charades... where we will watch famous actors, act like characters, acting out actions... bahaha FAIL

Dude, Clue was already made in to a movie. It wasn't half bad either.

I'm 31 and actually happen to be a huge Candyland fan, have been for most of my life. To me the game is not about winning or losing, it's about the experience of playing. It's a fun place to visit and I believe that the upcoming movie could really tap into that aspect of it. I know that the first thing people want to do these days is spew negative comments and try to out sarcasm each other, so I felt compelled to voice a positive opinion for once. If you feel that a candyland movie is not for you, no one's feelings will be hurt if you DON'T SEE IT! Everyone has their own thing, lets leave it at that, please?

THEY STOLE ALL *MY* IDEAS TOO! You just watch! This exact scene's gonna be in there: Jolly: And Grandma Nut sure knows a thing or two about-- Plumpy: Oh, do hush! You're so vulgar. Now, who'd like a plum? Mr. Mint (holding a candy cane in his hand like a cigarette): Nobody wants any of your goddamn plums.

What's next? Silly Putty: The Movie That Rubbed Out Hollywood?

I totally called this!! Only I thought Tim Burton would make a better person to have it. Since Alice in Wonderland did so well.

There is a Kickass looking psychological thriller coming out next year titled "Candyland" as one word. The trailer was reviewed on Quiet Earth: http://www.quietearth.us/articles/2011/05/17/From-lovers-to-mortal-enemies-First-CANDYLAND-teaser) and the website is: http://www.thecandylandmovie.com I don't think the little kids will be watching this one. It's for the parents. lol! Creepy looking...
