Watch This: Earthquake Scene from Roland Emmerich's 2012
by Alex Billington
October 1, 2009
Instead of debuting another trailer, Sony has opted to debut an extended scene from Roland Emmerich's 2012, the epic disaster movie that hits theaters in November. The video was shown on TV on a number of networks earlier today and was a huge promotion for Sony. I wish we had a more high quality version, but this Fancast video is all we've got for the moment. I really hate the cheesy imitation Arnold and it gets worse when he says "the worst is over" and it all starts to get worse. I like Emmerich for the action, not the story, because he really does pull off every cheap trick he can. Anyway, enjoy this more for the action, as I said.
Watch the extended earthquake scene from Roland Emmerich's 2012:
An academic researcher leads a group of people in a fight to counteract the apocalyptic events that were predicted by the ancient Mayan calendar. Cast includes John Cusack, Amanda Peet, & Chiwetel Ejiofor.
2012 is directed and co-written by epic German filmmaker Roland Emmerich, of films like Stargate, Independence Day, Godzilla, The Patriot, The Day After Tomorrow, and 10,000 B.C. previosuly. It was also co-written by Harald Kloser, of The Thirteenth Floor, The Day After Tomorrow, Alien vs Predator, and 10,000 B.C. as well. Sony Pictures is bringing 2012 to theaters everywhere on November 13th this year!

Saw it on TV tonight! Laughed my ass off! Ahh M. Emmerich, you won't be satisfied until yu blow up the universe...I'm sure your film will be a sci-fi epic called " The CRUNCH " (as in The Big Crunch) What would the film industry be without you and M. Bay! P.S.: Premier!

I hate brainless movies, but I have to admit that when I saw this clip on tv (in HD) I couldn't help but grin at all the awesome destruction. I have no clue why the Earth was collapsing in on itself, but I don't particularly care. I just hope they don't try to shoehorn in some sort of sappy drama between the main characters. Nevermind, I know that they will. I would rather just follow random characters around the world and let the Earth be the main character throughout. I plan on seeing this in the theaters just to see stuff get f'd up. (I just watched the video on this page and it had more than what I saw on tv. Lmao, is the Earth roaring?? Awesome)

They must have paid the actors a buck each? because I'm sure the entire budget for this movie went into the special effects.

I'll be honest...natural diasters like this is possible, its wierd to think that you know this might happen....but I'm sorry, I can't see John Cusack saving the whole day, its like they pitched this to other actors like Smith, Pitt, even Damon...and they were like Fuck no...all in all I'm glad to see white people still can make it out alive...but its fucked upeverytime the world about to end they alway blamed the black president...this time... Danny glover, why not switch it up, have an Asian President or a Gay president shit something!!!

the special effects have a real "wow" factor. i don't know how good the overall movie will be, but in this case it doesn't matter. the "hook" is the special effects and i won't be missing this one. hey, i thought the funniest part was when cusak gets his family in the car and (with the earthquake destroying everything around them he says : "everybody buckle up!".........that was hilarious.

I'm definitely gonna see this movie. I don't care about the story whatsoever. What's to get there anyways? The plot is simply "Omg, it's the end of teh World!" Alright, let Armageddon begin. I just wanna see how everything gets destroyed. Total destruction on a global scale is awesome. And you really can't complain about the effects, this looks awesome. I'll just replace my brain with a big bucket of popcorn and have a good time. Btw...did I hear Godzilla growl in the backround?

Emmerich has stated that he wants to get away from disaster movies, so he's doing the disaster to end all disaster. Should be a fun time in the theater.

Hey Cusack made it happen in Con-Air and he'll make it happen in this! I'm hoping for the "pretty shitty ass movie that entertains the hell out of me thing," a la 'Snakes on a Plane'! I saw a documentary on 2012 like 6 years ago, and they did a really good job at scaring the shit out of me. However, once I saw that Mel Gibson heavily believed in all of the 2012 hoopla, I knew everything would be all right and I went back to my Cheetos. For more random destruction theory entertainment, read about the island of La Palma and the massive tidal wave to hit the U.S., I bet that's the next Emmerich movie. I got my canned soup and bottled water ready to haul ass out of Rhode Island the second that shit happens. I gotta stop watching the Discovery Channel, lord.

This clip is like a machine gun providing rapid shots of brainless dialogue and action. How much bad dialogue and moronic action sequence can one fit in a 5.5 minute clip? Apparently, a lot more than I thought. Props on the visuals, but ohhh so bad otherwise. I wasn't expecting much from this movie, but this clip blew any small chance I was willing to give it.

With some editing tweaks, this could be turned into a slapstick comedy. It'd still be shitty, but somewhat less shitty.

AVATAR IS TOO FAKE LOOKING! IT WILL SUCK! IT'S ALL CGI AND LOOKS FAKE!!! FAKE FAKE FAKE!!! Yeah. Hypocrites. First Transformers that you can't tell apart from each other half the time and now this pile of ass that is going to be nothing but totally unbelievable scenarios and non-stop stupidity the entire way through. No, Avatar is the flick that looks like it will suck. Please. @Kevin: To be fair, this looks like it will be pretty much on the same level as Megashark as far as the plot and acting go. The only real difference is the dramatic increase in quality of the effects from one to the other. Megashark is actually one of the more enjoyable experiences I've had with film this year, as I love to riff on shitty movies. Especially with friends. If this film has any sort of resolution beyond the main characters abandoning hope and accepting their deaths, then something is seriously wrong with the writers heads. I'm sorry, but I do not believe for a moment that anything anyone does will be able to counteract destruction of that magnitude. They probably just have to goto mexico and find some secret hidden room in one of the ruined temples so they can hit the 'off' button or something goofy like that. Welcome to Emmerich's brain. So yeah, this will be fucking awful, and I really hope thy put something decent out around the same time so I'll have an alternative to ever having to pay good money to see this in a theater. Even then I'll probably see it because people enjoy reading other people's reviews of shitty movies for some reason. I could write a novel just about how shitty this clip alone is. In fact, fuck it. I'd like to think that this whole film is some sort of elaborate joke. Like it's actually supposed to be a comedy, but they're trying to sell it like a serious action film or something. The clip is FUCKING HILARIOUS, and I'd like to think it was on purpose, but all the shit afterwards makes it seem more like it's just going to be so bad - worse than the worst film Emmerich has made yet - that it just comes across as funny for a couple minutes here and there. It's like a parody of an Emmerich film, only Emmerich actually made it. The guy actually thinks this is 'action-packed' cinema, but it's not. It's fucking comedy. Ironically, just as is the case with Bay's films, the "Comedy Relief" moments are the parts that kill the humor. It's even funnier when you think about how many people are gonna walk out of the theater with a new 'favorite movie'.

I bet Cusack's character is one of the 2012 'believers' who is able to predict when all of these cities and natural disasters and shit are about to occur, but people in the film will continually treat him like he's crazy, even after he's predicted several cities massive destructions. I'm reminded of the Randy Quaid character in Independence Day, who claimed to have been adbucted. Even as they were recruiting people to go fly and fight against the invading alien forces, people still gave him looks like he was crazy if he brought it up. Who the fuck writes this shit? Does it get written down on paper at all? I don't think you even need a script if all you're going to do is blow shit up for two straight hours.

Right I bet 3/4 of the money that went into this movie was all special effects. 3:28 is awesome ha ha the highway is in mid air and there cars are flying and there still trying to get out. =D All this destruction is nice to a lot of work was put in to this movie it must have took along time with all effects. I personally like this movie , I ask my friends if they want to go see it but they all say "no" cuz they don't like then end of the world movies. Wow Emmrich has a lot of epic movies out , Out of the ones he's made ( Independence day , The day after tomorrow, and now 2012) I vote 2012 as best. I hope to see it the day it comes out except in Utah the it comes out October 5th D=.

O.K., everyone knows Roland Emmerich is a horrible director, and all of his films have sucked. Still, this movie has the most impressive CGI I've seen to date. And better win the Best Visuals Oscar this year.
