Avatar Featurette

I'm trying to slow down on our Avatar posts so as to not overload everyone with new footage, but this time I just can't help myself. IGN UK debuted a new featurette for James Cameron's Avatar today titled Human Hardware. It's actually a very impressive featurette looking at the design and development (and usage) of the various "hardware" that the humans use - as in, the badass mech AMP units (seen above), helicopters, gunships, and so on. My hope is that everyone gets more and more excited the more they see from Avatar, whether it be posters or more featurettes. And there's lots of new footage and plenty to see in this, so enjoy!

Watch the new Avatar featurette titled "Human Hardware" from YouTube:

Avatar is the story of an ex-Marine on the planet Pandora who, as an Avatar - a human mind in an alien body - finds himself in a desperate fight for his survival and that of the indigenous beings called Na'vi.

Avatar is both written and directed by Oscar winning visionary filmmaker James Cameron, of Piranha II, The Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, True Lies, and Titanic previously. He has been developing the technology to make this movie for the last 10 years. 20th Century Fox is bringing James Cameron's Avatar to both IMAX and regular theaters in 3D around the world on December 18th.

So now after all of the footage shown on this site and elsewhere, we've pretty much seen the film. Ugh. It's not that a lot of this doesn't look cool, it's just that they've left no room for the imagination at this point, which is kind of what the film was supposed to be about. And if I have to listen to someone talk about how "Jim came up with that idea" one more time I'm going to shoot myself. The Amp Suit? Jim had the idea that someone could go into a mechanized suit and now it's a revolutionary idea? I shouldn't say don't post anything about this film anymore because it's your site Alex, but frankly, I'm tired of seeing anything on Avatar until it comes out.

Haters and doubters will be eating their feet come December 18th. But of course then they'll be saying they loved it all along! Can't wait.

Will Dearborn on Nov 19, 2009

I cannot wait for this!

tankmaster on Nov 19, 2009

Oh god, james cameron it's officially my hero, finally something worth to go a theater, this definetly going to be epic, best cgi ever like only james cameron can pull.

I am still unimpressed considering the volume of resources this film needed to be completed. I love Cameron (who doesn't?) but I am just not as impressed as I want to be with this film. It took hundreds of millions of dollars and a decade of Cameron's time. I hope I am wrong, I just see a colossal loss for the studio on this one. I mean "Watchmen" didn't make enough in theaters, and it cost WAY less than this film. Either way fingers are crossed. James Cameron "THRILL ME!"

The thought of seeing all this amazing stuff in 3frikkinD is making my head explode. In a good way of course.

I am sure this movie is filled tons of actions and it’s gonna blow when people will watch it in 3d .The guns were really cool .Looks like James Cameron is back in his old style. After people watch this movie they will start to begin the hype the movie again which got lost because of it’s trailers.

joe on Nov 20, 2009

I'm in. 110%

jebb on Nov 20, 2009

Despite the amazing effects, it still looks like a story that's been told many times before. I can take that from Emmerich or Bay, but I expect a hell of a lot more substance in a Cameron movie.

Sam on Nov 20, 2009

#6 #16 = whiny little contrarian bastards.

DD on Nov 20, 2009

Sweet Jesus........the days just can't go by faster

d1rEct on Nov 20, 2009

16#. You have not even seen the movie yet. A good story is not about being totally original it is about how you tell it .. and it is much in the details and quality of characters. You can't judge this from trailers. Few of Camerons movies have had amazing stories they are just told well.

Film looks Great... Na'vi look shit

Metatasian on Nov 20, 2009

am i the only one that doesn't give a shit about this movie?

Brian Ricci on Nov 20, 2009

Really pissing me off people who say they think theyve seen the whole movie...isnt this like 3 and half hours long? Quit your whining until you see the fucking flick...we are so spoiled nowadays its beyond comprehension.

Cody on Nov 20, 2009

Yes Brian Ricci because you are an idiot.

Jamie G. on Nov 20, 2009

HAHAHAHAHA They haven't shown any of the plot yet. "Yeah I've seen the whole movie..." Uh, no, it's a Cameron film, you actually haven't seen jack shit about the movie at all. There is one very nice day this year...Dec. 19th. That's the day all the haters shut the fuck up and sit the fuck down.

tyrascilee on Nov 20, 2009

#21- nope. i dont really give a shit either. dances with smurfs

shredder on Nov 20, 2009

also, the mech AMP units? anyone ever see the cartoon "Exo-Squad"? yeah

shredder on Nov 20, 2009

I do like this tit bit of Doci into the Avitar world. i have been skeptical about the Early trailers but it beging to grow on me even more i will see this in the cinema i think the vistors look grate and made for the cinema cannot wait for 18 December 😀

Cineprog on Nov 20, 2009

You don't need to see the movie to know that it will need everyone to go see this film 3 times to make back the overwhelming amount of money it has cost to make. Sure, its gonna look good, but is it really worth the hundreds of millions of dollars it cost? That I am not so sure about. About six Big budget pictures could be made with the price tag of this one film. I can only hope that plenty of people like #17 go multiple times, but hey they did for "Transformers 2" and this film is going to be better (I hope.)

eating their feet?

xerxex on Nov 20, 2009

I want that you lucky americans know this little story. Not only in Italy we have a right-wing government led by a man called Berlusconi that owns newspapers and tv channels and that is trying to find a way through his problems with justice. We have another odd traditional thing in our country called "cinepanettoni" (sort of "xmas-cakes-movies"), and it means a specific kind of movies you can find in theaters during the Christmas time. Since late '80s there are this comedy movies with well-known actors (Massimo Boldi, Jerry Calà, Christian De Sica...) and many sexy beauty girls. The plot is usually about families and single guys on vacations with similar screenplays and very lame storytelling, but with 'memorable' quotes and (unexplainable) huge boxoffice success. Well, the saddest part? That FOX ITALY... choose to DELAY AVATAR TO JANUARY 15. I can't believe this. I was waiting for this 18 December WORLDWIDE release date like a kid is waiting for Santa Claus. But no, since italians are so dumb with their xmas movies tastes we'll get Avatar one month later. I still can't believe this. Please help us to become a smarter theaters audience! An angry, disappointed italian.

Theres nothing in that footage that I have seen, read or heard of many times before. If revolution means to go in circles, then yes, this is revolutionary... I'll pay to see it, but only because theres nothing better to watch

moif on Nov 20, 2009

And naturally, I meant to write; Theres nothing in that footage that I have NOT seen, read or heard of many times before.

moif on Nov 20, 2009

Verne Troyer in a Mech! I'd definitley pay to see that.

Sam: After reading your comments in #31, I had to go back and read your orginal comments in #16 as well as those of the fanboys to see what you off. I see your point; the fanboys haven't see the movie eitther so your orginal remark was just as valid as theirs. Although I will say that your comments in #31 were far more entertaining LOL
