Watch This: Official Leap Year Trailer Starring Amy Adams
Universal has premiered the trailer for Anand Tucker's Leap Year starring Amy Adams, Matthew Goode, and Adam Scott. This cute story follows Adams as she journeys to Dublin, Ireland to attempt to follow an Irish tradition and propose to her boyfriend on Leap Day. I had hoped that this was one of those random rom-coms that I might enjoy, but then they threw in all the physical humor (like sliding into the mud) and the overused Hollywood cliches (like her Blackberry), and I lost all hope. Oh and they also ruin the end of the movie as well, but I guess that's what you've got to do to sell to audiences in early January. Take a look!
Watch the trailer for Anand Tucker's Leap Year:
A woman with an elaborate scheme to propose to her boyfriend on Leap Day, an Irish tradition which occurs on February 29th, faces a setback when bad weather threatens to derail her planned trip to Dublin.
Leap Year is directed by British/Hong Kong filmmaker Anand Tucker, of Red Riding: 1983, When Did You Last See Your Father?, Shopgirl, Hilary and Jackie, and Saint-Ex previously. The screenplay was co-written by British Oscar winner Simon Beaufoy (Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, Slumdog Millionaire) and writing partners Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan (Surviving Christmas, Made of Honor). Universal is bringing Leap Year to theaters everywhere on January 8th, 2010 early next year. Anyone planning on seeing it?
Horray for showing the whole crappy movie in the trailer.

and alex i dont think the proposal is the key to the movie it is more the journey

Eh....I will probably watch it when it comes on TV. I chuckled a little when her shoe flew off and hit that lady. Who knows, you might be surprised and it turns out to be really funny? That's how it was for me with The Proposal.

I'm afraid this won't be too good... It's a shame. I love Amy Adams.

1. Wait, wait, wait. So you mean you take a fish, then take that fish out of water? 2. Half of this looks like its on a green screen, which makes it seems really dream-like and, thus, makes it more difficult to get laughs from the horribly cliche physical humor. 3. They ended the trailer with the cliffhanger - who will she choose after this wonderous trip!? - which was already predicable. 4. Why did they cast the d-bag brother from Step-Brothers as a bf? 5. Was hoping this got all Straw Dogs in the end. All said and done - looks like problems with the DP, marketing, and whoever cut the trailer. But it begs to ask, is this marketable anyhow? Is anything about Irish-Americans going back to Ireland to find their roots marketable? I know Alexander Payne had an adaptation in the works I saw in the trades and I had the same thought. Seems more like a 30% book from Borders you see chubby girls reading on the train. All in all, I wish them the best. Amy Adams is a lovely actor.

now after seeing the trailer, should we watch the entire movie? i bet she'll decline the proposal and will leave happily ever after with a fried blackberry in a fried town...

I'm sorry. I know the trailer is crappy and all, but I would watch anything with Matthew Goode. Ditto to the extreme for Amy Adams. But that doesn't make it any less crappy 🙂 Hopefully these two sublime actors will carry the movie above expectations!

Do they even attempt to keep the story secret anymore?
luden on Nov 12, 2009
Didn't this movie originally star Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline?

Whole film trailer man strikes again. I love how 'quaint' those little towns are, I imagine the scriptwriters living in LA or New York imagine these towns to be populated by alcoholics and because they never actually go to the places they write it's a fantastical plastic Paddyland that they come up with. Hopefully there'll be a mumbling farmer in it too. Ah the simple people and their simple way of life, getting drunk everyday and living bang in the most beautiful landscape ever created, why don't we all live there? Well, because it rains most of the time and it costs $7/£5 a beer that's why. That being said I'd watch it on tv, I think they went to the same pub in Highlander too.

it kind of looks like that sandra bullock movie "forces of nature" in a different setting. i am a sucker for nice rom-coms, but i don't like that physical humor much. and amy's character looks a little bit stupid (she asked to take a taxi to Dublin when she was in Wales? honey, they are on different islands!) yet since i both adore Amy Adams and Matthew Goode and they threw in the new Snow Patrol song at the end, sooo, i'll watch it.

i cant wait for it to come out. matthew goode is fab eye candy and amy adams is a great actress, up there with meryl streep. Adam scott is in it and both john lithgow and dwight schultz have cameos but better still my sister was an xtra on the film. Whats wrong with a good rom-com!! looking forward to it.
