2009: At The Movies

It's a bit early for this - these usually start hitting around New Years - but it's still a great recap video, so I thought I'd feature it anyway. This isn't from the same guy who made the last few phenomenal recaps (like 2008: The Cinescape from last year), as that guy is oyguvaltshappy on YouTube and this one comes from another user named Zack1Young. Normally I love these kinds of recaps, but this one just didn't hit me like the others before. I love the Arcade Fire song "Wake Up" that he uses, but he needed to choose some better clips and edit it a little better. Anyway, enough talking, check out the 2009: At The Movies recap below.

Special thanks to In Contention and Thompson on Hollywood for first discovering this video. I don't about everyone else, but I would've liked to see some more footage from District 9, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and/or Up in the Air in this, and a little less G.I. Joe (the CGI in that movie looks awful). But I guess I can't be picky. Although he does use lots of footage from 500 Days of Summer and I think everyone knows how much I love that movie (it's my favorite movie of the year). I've got to say, this gets really good at the end, right when the music starts picking up and we get a lot of the facial reaction shots, that's the best part. Thoughts?

Boring!!! I'm still waiting for Cinescape 2009!!! 08 was fantastic!

Yeah not nearly as good as last years recap...I hope they do a better one and use a different song. Not that its bad but its the same damn song from the wild things trailer felt kinda ripped off. BTW im a die hard arcade fire fan.

gosh that song will make anything seem grand. this wasnt too terrible, kudos to that guy for including the stinkers ( wolverine, gi joe, transformers)

Pretty good Zack. Maybe throw in Michael Myers. Sunshine Cleaning and The Goods would be cool. Thats funny no New Moon or Paul Blart (good)

Way too much GI Joe Footage.

I would love to see again the cinescape 2008, i only see it once thanks to the copyright

Thanks for the feedback. The hardest thing about making these are the movie choices. I for one loved GI Joe as a fun summer movie. District 9 and Drag Me to Hell are also some of my favorite movies of the year but their trailers are all quick cuts, making it almost impossible to work with. I appreciate the comments and I'll try to improve next year. -Zack1Young

Ugh, I know it was the highest grossing movie of 2009 but why the hell was Transformers 2 a necessity to put here?

WhatISmynameanyway? on Dec 19, 2009

Even though it's the worst movie of the year, Transformers 2 is still arguably the biggest movie of 2009 and thus I put in one clip.

Zack on Dec 19, 2009

Too bad there's nothing from The Princess and the Frog.

James on Dec 19, 2009

This is a great work. I just want to see more about this kind of reviews. Greetings!

Well, it's your time, but I say, screw American movies, at least half included is not worth remembering in my opinion. Where is Un Prophette? To name one superiorly exciting nonamerican movie of this years. True, Sherlock Holmes is British, mostly.

Slumdog millonaire... too.. !!!

sakyo on Dec 19, 2009

i liked it but maybe the scene where wikus caught the RPG (it was in the trailers) might be good for a bit more district 9, and maybe add something from trick r treat and something fast from Taken which was one of the best this year i also still don't get all the hate for transformers 2... i disliked the first one and thought the second one was a marked improvement... better than say wolverine or GI joe movies.

Janny on Dec 19, 2009

Only one tiny clip of District 9 and Avatar? Meh.

Mike on Dec 19, 2009

Not the first. I made put one and put on youtube a week ago w the same song

cheater on Dec 19, 2009

Christopher M on Dec 19, 2009

#18 that was not gandalf it was dumbeldor from harry potter and the half blood prince

samuel j on Dec 20, 2009

#19 same thing that author stole so many concepts for Potter

Christopher M on Dec 20, 2009

why are people still crying about the video when the guy said he appreciated the comments and he'll try to improve next year? can any of you do better? i liked it. shut up.

Brian Ricci on Dec 20, 2009

hooray! well done. I can't make these and so I always look forward to the end of the year when they come around. 🙂 Thanks for your hard work.

I liked the recap, thought it was edited pretty well. Reminds me that I still got to see movies like Avatar, Up in the air or Fantastic Mr. Fox in the next weeks :-).

cine_phil on Dec 20, 2009
