Whoa, Michael Bay Wants to Direct a 'Small Movie' Next?
Is that a joke? No, apparently not. When Paramount announced a date for Transformers 3, and Michael Bay fired back saying "not so fast, I need a year off," everyone thought he was just being an egotistical bastard. The truth of the matter is that he just wants to make a small movie, like Christopher Nolan or Steven Soderbergh. "I would like to take a year off," Bay recently told MTV. "I might do a small movie in-between [Transformers 2 and 3]." And what the heck would this movie be? "[It's based on] a true story, and it's very funny, it's a dark comedy." he reveals, adding that, "it's like a Pulp Fiction-type of movie."
Even if you don't like Michael Bay or his movies, one thing is for sure - that guy can make headlines. I think I've written more about him and everything he says than any other director in the last six months. To be honest, I actually like him. Although I'm certain a Michael Bay "dark comedy" is still going to be pretty commercial (and will probably contain one explosion at least somewhere), it could be great to see him stretch his legs on something that doesn't have a budget over $200 million. Hell, call me crazy, but I'm in until we hear the concept or the plot. Or maybe this is all just some more Michael Bay disinformation?

I have no problem with Bay and I think the transformer movies are good for what they are. Action movies. Sure a lot of dialogue is corny, but there are giant robots fighting each other and it looks great! How could you complain? Also I can't say I'm too excited for this movie based on the little knowledge we have.

I used to hate Bay in 90's with his stupid films. But since The Island I am starting to like him more and more. His whole thinking got changed. His movies are still... ahem, though, but much better than before.

Now this i wanna see. I can't even begin to imagine what a non action blockbuster type movie might look like coming from Michael Bay.

That sounds great, hopefully the one after will be even smaller and the one after that tiny until eventually it'll just be him sitting in his back garden with a camcorder filming whatever explosions he can make with a barbeque, an aerosol can and a ten pack of sparklers. Seriously tho from what i've seen of his work, this fucknut could do a "dark comedy" like a goldfish could do a pole-vault.

I think he can pull it off

Who thought he was being egotistical? I really don't see how taking a year off is being egotistical. There is such a thing as exhaustion.

I didn't take it that way. I thought he was basically saying if they wanted to do Transformers 3 that soon they would have to find somebody else to direct because he needed a break, not that only he could make it and they'd have to wait for him.

He's definitely got a unique style. I'm not sure if it's good. Lots of expensive establishing shots for no good reason. However, through his movies there are moments of broad, uneasy comedy.

No explosions and chases and action shit to distract me from the god awful plot and direction? Ugh... Well at least he'll be getting out of his comfort zone, which is more than I can say for a lot of big-time directors / actors / etc. He'll probably learn more from one small film that he ever would from any number of his typical action flicks.

Well I want hear more of this, I'm not a fan of Bay but it sounds like interesting project for something like him.

I think he should be making "Bad Boys 3". Now is a good time to bring back Will and Martin. Apparently Will had a great idea for the third film which in pitched to Michael Bay last year.

He should concentrate on finally making a good movie... but I doubt that will ever happen.

The end of what 11 said, except I think he might be trying to prove that he can do something different BUT definitely need details first like Alex said, it could just be more BS.

if it interests me, ill go into it with an open mind, as i do with any film no matter who it is in charge. That being said, im still pretty sure this will be a colossal fail.

His comments about pushing back the date of Transformers 3 didn't strike me as egotistical at all. If it seemed a little bit like he was trying to control Paramount it was only in a very fair sort of "Look what this would require, it's just too tight let's push it back a year" kind of way." It wasn't like he was just pushing it back for the heck of it and, with this story or rumor or whatever, there's even more of a reason for the delay.

Please let this happen so that Transformers 3 comes out in 2012, instead of 2011!

Ok Alex, so Bay says he wants to make a small movie after Transformers 2. Right? So he must be one of those directors who is in touch with his inner artistic self!! What a relief!! For an instance i thought he was a U.S Army liaison or better still a U.S. Army recruiter. You know..i got to admit..even though i live in Europe, every time after watching a Bay-movie (that's right..that's the name for the "films" he makes..bay-movies) i have this unrelenting urge to enlist in the u.s army and head out to Iraq and kill a few people before they get to Megan Fox..at least not before me. The funny thing is, if you don't remember, 11 years ago, Bay said the exact same thing..he had just finished a bay-movie and wanted to take a break from blockbusters by making a small film. The movie he had just finished was "Armageddon" and the small film he then set out to make was of course "Pearl Harbor".

Good comment #11. I agree. I don't think he'd succeed too well (though I'm sure it will still pull in a respective return), he may learn something from it and allow him to improve in his larger movies. ...and there will be a big boom. I think everyone, including him, would be disappointed if SOMETHING didn't blow up, no matter how cheesy that is.

Lol. "Dark" according to Bay is the amount of lighting used on set. Despite that, maybe this will be something unique for him, definitely different that his usual stuff.

Michael Bay needs to make a full-length Verizon Fios movie. I'd fuckin pay to see it.
