Worth Watching - Aug 23: War of the Worlds: Goliath Trailer
War of the Worlds: Goliath is an animated steampunk epic and unofficial sequel to War of the Worlds. In 1900, the Earth was attacked by ruthless invaders from the planet Mars. The Martian's 80 ft tall, heat-ray spewing, Tripod battle machines laid waste to the planet, but the invaders ultimately fell prey to Earth's tiny bacteria. Fourteen years later, Man has rebuilt his shattered world, in part by utilizing captured Martian technology. Thanks to Twitch, I'm featuring this badass trailer for an indie animated film that looks pretty awesome. I'm a sucker for this kind of stuff, so I thought I'd also share it with everyone else. Check it out!

War of the Worlds: Goliath is directed by animator Joe Pearson, a former animation supervisor who has worked on various cartoons and past films like DuckTales: The Movie, "Little Dracula", "Rocko's Modern Life", and Highlander: The Search for Vengeance. The screenplay was written by David Abramowitz, of the original "V", "MacGyver", "Highlander", and Highlander: The Search for Vengeance as well. This was produced and animated independently by Tripod Entertainment, Epoch Ink, Studio Climb, and Imaginex Studios. It's slated to hit on DVD in February next year. Head over to the official website for more details.

does anybody remember blood hunter? twas a flick with don "The Dragon" Wilson in it and what i think the most shitty movie ever so don`t be to harsh on this one.
yojoe on Aug 23, 2009
Which part of this was steampunk? I'm not seeing steampunk. Agreed with 11, this looks good, but it does not look worth a theater release.
dRailer on Aug 23, 2009
Hell, looks like fun to me. I think by steampunk he means the mix of such modern technology with turn of the 20th century tech, like the biplanes and dirigibles. I don't think it's looking to compete with Wall-E or UP, but should be a fun animated movie.

Well I just wasted my time with that pile of crap. What is this made by the same assholes who made that awful Dead Space anime?
Syphous on Aug 23, 2009
Uh oh. Is it bad I didn't actually mind Dead Space: Downfall?
ThinningTheHerd on Aug 23, 2009
This miiiiiiiight have a small chance if the voice actors weren't so completely awful and terrible. Every line is flat and yawn worthy. 2D animation is also gimmicky and uninventive, their facial expressions don't reveal anything and often don't match what they're saying. Meh. I support indie animation stuff, but only if it's not complete crap. Story and characters look really flat, too, although it is just a trailer highlighting their pretty explosions, so who knows.

where is TOM CRUISE, how can this be a sequel if tom cruise is not even in it

Concept is interesting but it doesn't look so great. I'm glad they're going straight to dvd with this. It might be worth a rental.

What the Fuck? Ok why? why do they do this. Its fucking dumb. I mean War of the worlds remake done by Spielberg wasnt that great im sorry to say. One of his weakess films. Sure there was tripods and dumb ass Hollywood explosions but the movie was boring and sort of dumb. This just looks awful.
A-B on Aug 23, 2009
This is awful. Just because a story has some Victorian elements...Zeppelins and Biplanes, say...doesn't mean it's Steampunk. I know...it is indeed set at the turn of the century (last century). But THAT in itself doesn't qualify it for being genre. I would argue that for it to be Steampunk, the producers would have to change MANY things. How about...why do the robots look like they are out of a 1985 GI Joe/Cobra animation? Hell, the robot spider vehicle in the Will Smith version of "Wild Wild West" is 5000 times more Steampunk! And why, if the Earth were invaded years before with state-of-the-art vehicles...including ceylon-looking spacecraft...are we still using old biplanes? We learn so much from their "walking robot" divisions, but nothing from their "flying" divisions. Oy! These poor flicks are trash. A solemn, half-ass job...but one that looks appropriately half-cool.

@ #25, Dead Space is NOT Anime. It was created and produced in and by America, yet distributed in some countries by Manga Entertainment. On the other hand, Highlander: The Search for Vengeance IS anime, and it was a pretty average one at that considering it had the same people involved that also worked on Vampire Hunter D and Ninja Scroll. Given that, I have little faith in this animation.
Crystal on Aug 24, 2009
Yeah, it doesn't look great.
Korm on Aug 24, 2009
Well, *I* want to see it. Why does everyone on here think they're some sort of film school valedictorian with nothing new to say except new ways to bitch?
Frank on Aug 24, 2009

I really am not a fan of the CGI/animation mix that has been popping up in a lot of anime and cartoons lately.
S on Aug 24, 2009
The robots remembers me old Robotech, it was OK when I was 8. This is a bad mix of Robotech and Metal Slug with some Independece Day air strike sequences...pass
Fercho on Aug 24, 2009
u mean they got these mechs running around and they are still using propeller powered planes. thats jus weak.
gray on Aug 24, 2009
Well, I'll definitely check it out on dvd. According to the website it doesn't look like this will receive even a theatrical release, which is fine by me. Voice cast is also interesting to me as it consists of actors from the Highlander series and Adam Baldwin. Must say the trailer didn't get my interest in this as much as the Behind the Scenes video on the website.
