Worth Watching: English Trailer for Bong Joon-ho's Mother
Don't let that title deceive you, this is actually fantastic Korean film. Mother is the latest film from The Host director Bong Joon-ho. After an asocial loser is framed as the perpetrator of a horrific murder, his hard-headed mother goes on the hunt to find the real killer in order to keep her son from going to prison. I got to see this in Cannes back in May and I actually enjoyed it a lot more than Park Chan-wook's Thirst, to make a comparison. Believe it or not, it's actually as crazy as any Park Chan-wook film, but in a much different way. Bong Joon-ho is a brilliant filmmaker and I highly suggest everyone keep an eye on this.
Watch the official English trailer for Bong Joon-ho's Mother:
Mother is directed by Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho, of Barking Dogs Never Bite, Memories of Murder, and the monster feature The Host most recently, as well as one of the segments of Tokyo!. The screenplay was co-written by Bong Joon-ho and Park Eun-kyo, of Crush and Blush previously. Starring as the mother in the film is Korean actress Kim Hye-ja, who has been absent from the big screen for ten years, last starring in Mayonnaise in 1999. Mother is being developed & sold by CJ Entertainment in Korea. It first premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year but still doesn't have a US distributor. Stay tuned for updates!
I didn't like the trailer to much but I love Korean cinema and Bong Joon-ho's films so i'll totally see this. I bet it will be 100x better then the trailer plays it out to be

For a moment the woman in the image looked like The Oracle from Matrix Reloaded 😛

Bong Joon Ho, Kim Ji Woon, and Park Chan Wook are three of Korea's directors who would be able to make a successful transition into Hollywood in my opinion.

I like the idea of the movie. A mother will do everything to rescue his son. The relationship between mother and son is a great one and its sad that moviemakers dont work so much with this topic. Its one of the oldest topics even the relationship between Jesus and Maria is a special one. And its good to see that normal person becoming a hero. It shows respect to our parents, mothers and fathers. And storyteller knows that in the dramatic the conflict must be a David vs Goliath conflict. And a mother seems not like a superhero or actionstar but sometimes they can kick asses better than Chuck Norris.

#4 teyhtr, why would they need to make a transition to hollywood? their films would suffer if hollywood got any control. it's not all about hollywood, i would go far as to say my favourite films are outside of hollywood bar several classic titles, hollywood churns out more shit than a cows arse, i've been a massive collector of "foreign" cinema titles for over 8 years and can say there are so many out there alot unknown and those that are known get caught up in ghastly remakes. this films looks really interesting, look forward to its release.

Distributors should of changed the title which doesn't sell what looks like an interesting mix of genres from Korea. Trailer sets up nicely qualities of isolation and struggle with an intriguing premise of an unlikely protagonist. B+

I am also a fan of Bong and Park. They have some great imagination as to how they want their films to go. Will possibly check this out. Also need to see the Host.

There is no reason for these directors to come work in Hollywood, as the Hollywood pirates will just remake these all into worthless pieces of crap anyway.
