Worth Watching - Mar 17: Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre Trailer
by Alex Billington
March 17, 2009
Okay horror fans, this one is for you! Thanks to Twitch, the trailer for Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre has arrived, and it's about as odd and creepy as you can get for a horror/thriller set on the open sea. First things first, yes, this is in English, even though it's a Icelandic production and directed by a Icelandic filmmaker. Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre is "an epic tale about a group of whale watchers, whose ship breaks down and they get picked up by a whale fisher vessel. The Fishbillies on the vessel have just gone bust, and everything goes out of control." It's actually looks pretty damn cool, so check it out.

Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre is directed by Icelandic filmmaker Júlíus Kemp, of Blossi/810551 and Wallpaper: An Erotic Love Story previously. The screenplay was written by Sjón Sigurdsson, of Regína and Anna and the Moods previously. The film stars all Icelandic actors, including the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre's Leatherface, Gunnar Hansen, who plays Captain Pétur. This will hit theaters in Iceland courtesy of Sam Film in September of 2009, though it doesn't have a US distributor just yet. We can expect to hear more on this in the next few months, as I expect it to show up in the Cannes film market. Stay tuned!

Pretty juicy sound effects. Sounds like they massacred an entire fruit section at the grocery.

Nr. 14, why would you say Iceland will be pissed? This is an Icelandic production with Icelandic cast. So why would we get pissed off? I am pretty excited about seeing an Icelandic horror film at last.

This movie looks like complete shit. We are all now dumber for seeing this. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Don't really see why people think this movie looks bad. Sure, the trailer could have been a little flashier but the idea is great, the direction looks solid, the acting (what we saw of it) looks better than most horror, it's foreign (which, in terms of horror, usually means "better"), and it looks violent as hell. And since it's movie about being stuck on a boat with killers, it's going to have that nice claustrophobic feel that works so well in horror. Looks great...I'll be keeping an eye out.

Oh, and one more thing...how many of you that said this looks bad are creaming themselves at the trailer for Transformers 2? Because that trailer makes it look like that's going to be an even worse movie than the first one...pure Noise Porn.

Who wouldn't kill someone if they were in a movie this slow and boring (felt like a 30min clip). can't be too good if they have already shown us the killers face. maybe the other ten people on the boat can team up . he olny has a axe.

I haven't seen the movie, but the trailer seems pretty good. I mean you can't really call this shit when you look at the pile that we call horror now.

S.O.S. The term "Slasher" movie is outdated. It should be "Hack" movie. The term succeds on many levels. By the way, the "juicy" noise is an old school sound effect - an ax hitting a cabbage I'm guessing. And Alex, your reviews are pretty sad....

But whale meat is delicious - what's not exploded anyway.

Malcolm J. Brenner I forgot, I just wanted to say, like 2% of our population eats whale meat, and our freezers are not overflowing... Where do you get your source? Just asking... Svo þið sem eruð að böggast í þessarri mynd getið bara haldið kjafti takk fyrir!!!
