Amanda Seyfried Might Be the Girl with the Red Riding Hood

Last August we learned that Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke had picked up a gig directing for a gothic, modern day twist on a Brothers Grimm classic with The Girl with the Red Riding Hood, a story focusing on a damsel in distress with a terrifying werewolf in pursuit. Warner Bros. is hoping to feed off of the script's "requisite dark/dangerous/romantic elements" in order to appeal pander to Twilight fans. No official casting is in place, but 24 Frames says Amanda Seyfried (Dear John, Jennifer's Body) is on a very short list of young actresses to lead this exploitation of teens' love of the montonous Twilight Saga.
All this talk of Twilight imitation is very disappointing though because 24 Frames also notes that the script has new life thanks to Orphan co-writer David Johnson who has gotten praise from "power players around town, who describe it as elevated genre material a la this weekend's Shutter Island." While I personally won't be seeing Shutter Island until this weekend, I'm pretty baffled by the script's comparison to a Martin Scorsese thriller if it's supposed to be marketed to Twilight fans? That's like taking a Coen Brothers-esque comedy and trying to sell it to people who loved Epic Movie. Something just doesn't make sense about that.
Of course, Twilight aside, it's good to see another female director making big strides in this male dominated industry, and hopefully Hardwicke can make a name for herself outside of just vampire melodrama with a project like this. In the meantime, we'll be waiting to hear any official word on casting hopefully soon, and we will keep you posted as this project moves towards production. Would Seyfried be your top choice?

I don't know about the director but I am a fan of Amanda Seyfried and if she gets in anything that has the chance of showing her great acting skills and might have a wider audience is a good thing in my book. She is simply amazing in Big Love, a show that everybody should watch. I haven't seen Chloe yet but I heard she has a great performance in that film.

I felt that its needs mentioning that Leo's company Appian Way is producing this film. That so far gave us the Aviator and The Orphan.

She has the acting chops and the looks to really go far. I'm looking forward to seeing her in Chloe and not just because she gets naked, though that sounds cool. Read about it and see photos here http://www.clattoverata.com/2010/01/12/amanda-seyfried-goes-nude-in-chloe-dykes-out-with-julianne-moore/

I think it's a risk for Seyfried. What if it bombs at the box office. People don't flock to see things they don't get--like "Jennifer's Body." Also, she would have to spend loads of time better spent looking for chances to appear in sure-fire projects--or at least some smaller projects that showcase her acting skills. The way I read the Times article on it was that she has the part if she wants it, by the way. I have to assume her agent knows best. Of course, in the long run maybe it doesn't make any difference. People are clammoring for Seyfried lately just because she is so damned adorable.
