Brandon Routh as Dylan Dog in the First 'Dead of Night' Trailer
This is one of those "ohhhh yea!" kind of movies. We've been writing about this Dylan Dog adaptation for years, even posting a bunch of first look photos more than a year ago, but haven't heard a single word about it since. I'm interested because it's the next movie from TMNT director Kevin Munroe and because it stars Brandon Routh, who (especially after Scott Pilgrim) just kicks ass. A new promo trailer (via Vlicious) for Dylan Dog: Dead of Night recently appeared on the web and unfortunately it looks pretty awful. Routh looks awesome, but the rest not so much. And yes, that is Taye Diggs as the head vampire. Tread carefully!
Watch the first (Italian) promo trailer for Kevin Munroe's Dylan Dog: Dead of Night:
The adventures of supernatural private eye Dylan Dog (Routh), who seeks out monsters (werewolves, vampires, zombies) of the Louisiana bayou wearing his signature red shirt, black jacket, and blue jeans.
Dylan Dog: Dead of Night (as it's currently titled) is directed by Canadian filmmaker Kevin Munroe, who's feature debuted was the animated TMNT, but this is his first live-action flick. The script was co-written by writers Thomas Dean Donnelly & Joshua Oppenheimer (of Thoughtcrimes, Sahara, A Sound of Thunder). It's based on Tiziano Sclavi's Italian comic book series first published in 1986 (and re-released in the US by Dark Horse). Dead of Night doesn't have a distributor yet, but we expect to hear more soon. Thoughts?
Well, I'm at least glad to see Routh's career didn't die after Superman Returns (Even though I thought SR wasn't THAT bad).

wow, um nice use of "Personel Jesus" and it looks kind of ok.
Xerxex on Aug 16, 2010
in a buffy the vampire slayer sort of way i think it looks like alot of fun.
Brian Barajas on Aug 16, 2010
Sam Huntington is in it so i'm in
Tim_Dahill on Aug 16, 2010
but yeah looks like something from the syfy channel
Tim_Dahill on Aug 16, 2010
LOL! Are they trying to sell it as a syfy channel original movie? That was ridiculous. It looks fun in that B movie sorta way.
eric on Aug 17, 2010
looks like shit
ocp on Aug 17, 2010
this is a movie? It looks like an ad for a new TV series. Seriously, there's no way this is a movie.
Chazzy on Aug 17, 2010
Bleah !!! It's very detestable movie from comic. i'm from italy and i have read all comic of DYLAN DOG and this is not a movie where i can see this character presentation in a good way. Why the director do this repulsiveness movies ???
Emiliano on Aug 17, 2010
So they`re using a CG kids movie as a marketing basis for this? Odd.
Mr.Cookie on Aug 17, 2010
What the fook... This is terrible.
L on Aug 17, 2010
A bit of a Comic Blade type to me. Been done before.
Cineprog on Aug 17, 2010
"Now in Post Production"!! lol.
Bash on Aug 17, 2010
When Taye Diggs said "The human race is obsolete Y'all", made me chuckle. It's cheesy so I'll watch it. looks fun.
arjones on Aug 17, 2010
Had to do a double take because I thought this was a trailer for a TV show the budget looked so bad. Also, Tyrese (sp?) as the bad guy?
nappingduck on Aug 17, 2010
I love the sfx and make-up. NOT! Oh wait, is that Peter Stormare? Awesome!
Robbie on Aug 17, 2010
haha POST PRODUCTION!! oh man...i'm getting a BUFFY (TV SERIES) feel...except with werewolves and zombies...zombies...haha were werewolves in BUFFY???
chilin on Aug 17, 2010
Personally, I think this looks like a lot of fun. I'm a big fan of the original comic, and frankly, it's pretty much b-movie horror in comic form (and I say that with a deep and unabiding love). It makes sense that the movie should follow suit. I don't think this is gonna be Citizen Kane, but I think it'll be a fun time.
Jobo on Aug 17, 2010
It's "ANGEL" the movie.......wait, where's BUFFY?
Typhoon on Aug 17, 2010
For some reason I'm loving this. Something about it. It has potiential.
WTF on Aug 17, 2010
Like Constantine and Hellboy had a baby:P Routh was AWESOME in Scott Pilgrim. I hope his charm carries over to a lead in a movie like this. Goofy but looks like fun. I like how they don't take themselves seriously and that is one of the reasons I think this could work. Consider me interested. Thanks for posting Alex!
Marc on Aug 17, 2010
It looked super low budget. Very much like a tv series, which wouldn't be a bad idea.
Johnny Neat on Aug 17, 2010
I think it is worth watching, even though it has a Buffy feel to it. I liked the Buffy tv show, so I may like this as well
terenced on Aug 17, 2010
I thought this was a promo for a TV show looks really bad
Mrfbehn4th on Aug 17, 2010
It doesn't look half bad actually I don't know why you guys can't see that. It's just that it's a promo trailer, it's got a terrible narrator(too much honey in his voice)...and it's got no VFX or post done on it... I think it looks really promising actually, and I love Brandon Routh, and he was especially great in Scott Pilgrim.
LINKFX on Aug 17, 2010
Did he really say "The human race is obsolete yo"
Arslaan on Aug 17, 2010
Wow, that trailer was terrible, but this movie looks like fun.
Chris Q. on Aug 17, 2010
This trailer is boring. Brandon Routh didn't help.
Davif on Aug 17, 2010
This looks embarrassing. The campy cheese and lame monster effects wouldn't even get a pass on TV.
Becca on Aug 17, 2010
I now want to read these comics, even though this trailer was very poor. This looks like it could be a good direct to vidfeo, or a really good TV show. however, it does not look like a direct to feature quality movie.
Eric on Aug 17, 2010
Brandon Routh is cool, the concept is decent, but cinematography (not sure I spelled it right), some of the make-up (primarily the werewolves), and the special effects look lame. That being said, it is definitely RedBox worthy.
lamar on Aug 17, 2010
God that looks like dog vomit. I am so embarrassed for Taye Diggs right now. And Routh's line readings are shit. He really can't act at all, can he?
Mort on Aug 17, 2010
Looks a bit like an 80's B-movie, the one's with good acting, not far off Fright Night or something, will watch this for sure.
Crapola on Aug 17, 2010
Brandon Routh couldn't act his way out of a paper bag
Geoff on Aug 17, 2010
Cheesy, low-budgeted, been done before, Angel-Buffy remake, yada-yada-yada. Each and every remark absolutely dead-on. Be that as it may, why will we waste some small part of our lives watching this at some future date, in one form or another? Plight of us lemmings, bitchin' and moanin' all the way down...
97.6 on Aug 17, 2010
97.6 - You'll see this at 3AM on TBS. And then change the channel after 5 minutes of it being too dumb to endure.
old gypsy woman on Aug 17, 2010
This has to be one of the worst trailers I've seen in a long time. Yes the movie looks bad but aren't you suppose to make it look cool in a trailer?!?!?
Sempai on Aug 17, 2010
#9 Welcome to Hollywood, the place that butchers the source material...and never apologizes
Have Hope on Aug 17, 2010
As much as I like Routh, I have to agree that looks like an ad for a TV series. One I'd probably watch quite happily, but a TV show nonetheless.
Mathieu on Aug 17, 2010
@ 19, I was thinking the exact same thing...The vampires look identical to Whedon's.
peloquin on Aug 17, 2010
I agree with some of the others. It has a Buffy/Angel feel to it, but I'll probably watch it. I enjoyed those tv shows even though they were a little corny lol
BJD on Aug 17, 2010
LOL you can tell how shitty a films gonnabe if the trailer is this loooonnnnggggg! this film screams " I WISH I WAS CONSTANTINE+SHAUN OF THE DEAD!!!!
curtfrmcali on Aug 17, 2010
