Casting Tidbits: Chris O'Dowd, Dianna Agron & Kevin James

We're "them." We're "they." We are the Casting Tidbits. First up, Variety reports Rose Byrne (Knowing) and Chris O'Dowd (Pirate Radio) have joined the Paul Feig directed, Kristen Wiig led wedding themed comedy which is either titled Bridesmaids or has yet to be titled depending on who you talk to. Not much of the story has been revealed except that it follows a maid of honor (Wiig) begrudgingly competing with a bridesmaid (Byrne) for the bride's attention. O'Dowd will play the male lead in the flick and it's his comedic stylings from British TV series "The IT Crowd" (available on Netflix Instant) that make me excited for this.
Next, a trio of new cast members have joined DJ Caruso's adaptation of the young-adult sci-fi novel, I Am Number Four, by James Frey and Jobie Hughes. First, Heat Vision reports Dianna Agron, one of the stunning cheerleaders form Fox's musical TV series "Glee", has signed on to star in the story of a group of nine aliens who escaped their home planet just before it was annihilated by a rival species. Hiding out on Earth, the title character (Alex Pettyfer) disguises himself as a human high schooler, only to discover he's still being hunted by the enemy. Agron will play a girl dating a high school jock who falls for Number Four and becomes his confidante, while Film Drunk reports Kevin Durand (Wolverine) will play the villain chasing the aliens and Callan McAuliffe ("Comedy Inc.") will play Number Four's best friend on Earth.
Also, Variety reports Kevin James will star in and produce the action comedy Here Comes the Boom with Salma Hayek circling the leading female role in the flick. Story details are being kept under wraps but James wrote the script with Rock Reuben, who has collaborated with James a couple times already as he previously wrote Zookeeper and also scripted and exec produced episodes of the James' sitcom "The King of Queens." James just hasn't really hit my funny bone in the right way. Ever. So I can't say I have any interest in this project at the moment.
Finally, Heat Vision reports Mehcad Brooks ("True Blood"), Serinda Swan (Percy Jackson & The Olympians), Sid Haig (House of 1,000 Corpses) and Daniel Bernhardt (The Matrix Reloaded) will star in an indie horror film currently going by the moniker Lockjaw. The story follows a group of family and friends who, en route to New Orleans, are sidetracked in the Louisiana bayou and encounter a monster named Lockjaw who is revered by the locals as a god. Brooks will play a Navy Seal back from the Middle East and Swan will play his fiancee, who is abducted to be the creature's bride. Meanwhile the uber creepy Haig will play a man named Chopper and Bernhardt will play the titular creature. Production designer Fred M. Andrews (who also wrote the script) will make his feature directorial debut with the flick.
Well, that's all for this edition of Casting Tidbits. Be sure to stay tuned for more casting updates on the way.
