Casting Tidbits: Jesse Eisenberg, Taylor Lautner & Bryan Callen

Eisenberg / Lautner / Callen

If you guys were the inventors of Casting Tidbits, you'd have invented Casting Tidbits. First up, The Wrap reports Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) will co-star with Jess Weixler (Teeth) in the indie Free Samples from director Jay Gammill. The story follows a law school drop-out (Weixler) who fills in as a server on a friend's food truck, where she doles out free samples of ice cream. As she's stuck there figuring out what to do with her life, she finds herself being courted by a young man (Eisenberg) whom she barely remembers from the night before. Jason Ritter ("The Event") and Keir O'Donnell (Wedding Crashers) also star in the film.

Second, Deadline reports a shirtless mannequin Taylor Lautner (The Twilight Saga) is attached to lead the previously announced adaptation of Catherin Fisher's young adult series Incarceron. The first book in the series is being adapted by much buzzed about screenwriters Adam Cooper and Bill Collage (who penned Brett Ratner's Tower Heist and an interesting re-telling of Moby Dick), but no director is attached yet. The story follows a guy named Finn (Lautner) who has spent his whole life on Incarceron, a savage, futuristic prison society. He meets the daughter of the warden, who is trapped in her own prison, a futuristic world constructed beautifully to look like the 17th Century. She knows nothing of Incarceron except that it exists, but when the two simultaneously find a crystal key that allows them to communicate and hatch an escape plan for Finn, all bets are off.

Next, Deadline reports that "MadTV" veteran Bryan Callen will yet again have a small role in a Todd Phillips comedy. After having minor but hilarious roles in The Hangover and Old School, Phillips has brought Callen onboard for The Hangover 2. He'll be playing a smarmy strip club owner in Bangkok. It's not clear if he'll be playing the same character or if he'll simply be taking on another minor character. Either way, there's likely to be plenty of laughs.

Finally, there's a couple of minor updates to the cast of Marc Webb's reboot of the Spider-Man franchise which just started shooting earlier this week. First, The Wrap reports Chris Zylka ("10 Things I Hate About You") has landed the role of Peter Parker's bully Flash Thompson. Giving young webhead the nickname of "Puny Parker", Thompson was a tough jock who never seemed to stop enjoying giving Parker a hard time while also being a huge fan of Spider-Man. Second, Superhero Hype reports child actor Miles Elliot has been cast as Billy Connors, son of Dr. Curt Conners (Rhys Ifans) who becomes Spider-Man's nemesis The Lizard.

I hope after the social network Eisenberg starts to take less awkward michael cera type guy roles and more serious dramatic ones. He can obviously give a great performance with the right director behind him.

I read that book, it's pretty cool. Taylor Lautner will do a fantastic job as Finn.

Taylor Lautner is NOT A MANNEQUIN. He's a 10,000 BC reject. Seriously, underwear model with a mongoloid brow.
