Casting Tidbits: Teresa Palmer, Ricky Gervais and Giovanni Ribisi

December 2, 2010

Palmer / Gervais / Ribisi

It's just like Santa's workshop! Except it smells like Casting Tidbits and everyone looks like they wanna hurt me. First up, THR reports Joel Edgerton (The Thing remake) and the lovely Teresa Palmer (The Sorcerer's Apprentice) will star in an Australian psychological drama called Say Nothing. Actor Kieran Darcy Smith will make his feature directorial debut with this story of four friends who lose themselves in the fun of a carefree Southeast Asian holiday. However, a mystery unfolds after a fateful night when they were dancing under a full moon in Cambodia and one disappears. Darcy also wrote the film himself.

Second, after we heard Emily Blunt may co-star with Jason Segel again in Five-Year Engagement, it looks like they may co-star for the second time even sooner. Heat Vision reports Blunt has joined the growing list of celebrity cameos in The Muppets. In addition, Ricky Gervais has also signed up to join in the puppet fun. The two British talents join other names like Jack Black, Zach Galifianakis, and maybe even Lady Gaga for a film that promises to be an epic return to the big screen for all your favorite Muppets.

Finally, Variety reports Ben Foster (The Messenger) and Giovanni Ribisi (Avatar) will join Mark Wahlberg and Kate Beckinsale in Contraband. A remake of the Icelandic thriller Reykjavik-Rotterdam, the story follows a security guard and former alcohol smuggler on the Iceland-Netherlands route who is tempted back into illicit business by a dubious friend after encountering financial problems. Foster is playing Wahblerg's brother-in-law, but it's not clear what role Ribisi has signed up for in the film. Universal is looking to release the film on March 16, 2012.

Well, that's all for this edition of Casting Tidbits. Be sure to stay tuned for more casting updates on the way.
