Chris Nolan is Excited to Be Working on Batman's 'Last Chapter'

November 30, 2010

Christopher Nolan

Even though we're still two years out and shooting hasn't even started on The Dark Knight Rises, we're already at that point where we're hyping it up just for the sake of hype. As in, even though there is no news or new information to report, this new quote from director Christopher Nolan is still worth reading just because it's an awesome two-year-early tease for the extremely highly anticipated conclusion to his Batman saga. Nolan spoke with Entertainment Weekly recently and confirmed that this is "the last chapter of our Batman saga." He also talked about how he's very excited to be working on TDKR next following Inception.

"I feel very glad that I'm doing another Batman film. I think it would have been daunting to sit down and write an original script after Inception. I love working within the realm and rules of our Batman world. It's kind of nice to have someplace to go that I'm super-excited about." He added that Inception's success allows him to tackle another Batman without any sense of needing to prove himself: "I must say that I'm glad — I'm very, very glad — to be embarking on the last chapter of our Batman saga without any sense of obligation or duty to the studio. They did very well with Inception. So I'm able to go into finishing our story in a very enthusiastic way."

The reason why I love this quote so much and wanted to feature it, is because there's been some unfounded speculation that the third story won't live up to Batman Begins or The Dark Knight because, well, where can they go next and maybe Chris Nolan is tired of dealing with Batman, which is why he does his own original movies like Inception and so on. But that is - obviously - just not the case! As you can see, he's very excited to be working on TDKR next. If there's one thing I know, when Chris freakin' Nolan is "super-excited" about a huge project he's about to start working on, that means we are probably going to be blown away by it, too.

Head over to Entertainment Weekly for the full article and a brief interview, which includes quotes about Inception's ambiguous top-spinning ending, such as: "What's funny to me is that people really do expect me to answer it." Inception arrives on Blu-Ray and DVD on December 7th (pre-order it on Amazon for $16.99). Warner Bros has The Dark Knight Rises scheduled to hit theaters everywhere starting on July 20th, 2012.

Looking very much forward for this movie. I am sure it will do as good if not better than Inception and The Dark Knight. But I highly doubt it will have an extraordinary preformance like Heath Ledger's Joker character. His was one of those once in a lifetime roles that was completely unexpected.

There is no way this could top TDK in critical sucess (even though I did not love it) but I bet it will be a stellar last chapter. But I'm sort of bored with his, and Bale's, take on Batman.

ryderup on Nov 30, 2010

And Mr. Nolan, we are all excited too.

Instead of asking did the top ever stop spinning, the question should of been what do you think happened to the top?

I wish I thought of that on Nov 30, 2010

I am really pleased with pretty much all of Christopher Nolan's work. Which is a very rare thing. It seems as though each film he comes out with does very well with critics and the audience... Generally. Of course there are people who do not like it just for the sake of not liking it... But seriously, this is the million dollar "ginxing" question... WILL Christopher Nolan "fail?"

RFabry on Nov 30, 2010

Now I would be worried if he wasn't excited about making the movie... Not sure why this is worth a headline ah!

Anomalous Material on Nov 30, 2010

just expect the unexpected... that will happen for sure if not for sure to expect because this one gonna be truly unexpected story for TDKR... GETS???

#9 - anythings possible; but, i'll believe it when i see it.

@#2 I'm sure Nolan and the rest of the world won't be able to sleep now that we all know you're bored. No offense but if you're bored with his Batman movies then maybe you need to stick to watching Michael Bay movies while coked out of your mind or something. In other words your opinion is irrelevant.

#11 LOL. Take it easy, it's not his fault he has a crummy taste in movies... oh wait.

Cruzer on Nov 30, 2010

#11. I'm so sorry for giving MY opinion, just like YOU gave yours. Why would my words be more, or less, irreelevant than yours? Just because I found TDK to not be "all that"? Because I prefer Michael Keatons socially awkward version of Batman than Bales stale one with a laughable Batman voice? And... oh... I happend to not be a fan of TDK and now I have crummy taste in movies... oh... come... on... And that part about watching Michael Bay movies were uncalled for! 😉

Cant wait....Chris we need more information on TDKR,this dripfeed is upsetting.

@ ryderup, rock on man! I've been having a love it/hate it relationship with Nolan films since everything after Memento. There's no humanity to his scripts anymore...but technically and artistically his films are true marvels to behold and the acting is always great.

#11 jerks off while reading his own comments... Anyways, super excited about the movie!

cant wait 😀

ryderup, if you seriously prefer Michael Keaton's version of batman over Bale's then you need help.

Lagoya on Dec 1, 2010

@15 how do his films have no humanity if the acting is great?

xanatos on Dec 1, 2010

#19Actually I do. I'm so sorry for doing it. Please forgive me.

ryderup on Dec 1, 2010

I read in the papers today that Nolan is going to use scenes that were cut from TDK and CGI to bring back the Joker in the third movie. Personally I think it's bs, because writer of the article said the movie was going to be directed by Christian Nolan and I don't believe articles that can't even get the name of the director right

TDKR will probably be shooting in NYC sometime next year as Chicago has been recently overshot by TDK and Transformers 3...just a few weeks ago Christopher Nolan was scouting NYC in a helicopter looking at the skyline of beautiful NYC! So the Big Apple will have The Avengers, Spider-Man 4, Men In Black 3 and The Dark Knight Rises shooting there within the next year....DEAR LORD!

birddog on Dec 2, 2010

They are not bring back Joker from footage in TDK. Nolan already stated this. Given that he keeps on getting better and better with his movies, I expect that this will be epic!
