Cillian Murphy

Now this sounds like it might be an awesome original thriller. Deadline is reporting that Cillian Murphy (last seen as Fischer in Inception) is set to star opposite Thandie Newton in a new thriller project called The Retreat that will start shooting in Wales in September. Murphy and Newton will play a husband and wife who rent a remote island cottage while trying to repair their marriage. One day they find a biohazard-suited soldier washed up on the beach, who warns them that everybody on the mainland has been killed by an airborne virus. "That's when the psychological fun-and-games begin…" What a great concept, I love it.

Producer Gary Sinyor of Magnet Films has been pitching The Retreat as a landlocked "Knife In the Water meets Dead Calm," which sounds interesting but I was already sold on that original logline above. Making his feature debut will be writer and director Carl Tibbetts, who previously worked as an editor on Alien vs Predator, but let's just forget about that and hope for the best. Also involved in the production is the real life David Frost of Frost/Nixon fame, who's on-board to pay the bills as executive producer. This sounds like it could be quite good, and Murphy/Newton are both very talented, so we'll be sure to keep you updated on it.

A great actor in what appears to be a wonderful twist-filled phsycological film. High hopes for this project. Tibbetts who worked on aliens vs. predators does scare me a bit, but this has lots of potential.

Sounds cool. Cillian Murphy was awesome in Inception.

Murphy did such a great job being detached and lonely in Inception that its almost depressing. Loved his work in his Boyle collaborations too.

#3 Agreed. Interesting concept, reminds me of the classic film, "On the Beach" with out the thriller of course.

Cillian Murphy is a real good actor and has been casted in some great roles. 28 Days Later is still one of my favorites.

Ending = The couple are driven mad from the madness of debating what to do and how to handle their next move due to "everybody on the mainland killed by an airborne virus". Either she kills him, he kills her, or they kill each other only to eventually find out the Soldier was full of shit and there was no virus. THE END

Cilian Murphy is such a sweet actor. I'll watch almost anything with him in it.

i slept on him as an actor. He's so different in every role. I just recently saw Perrier's Bounty with him, Brendan Gleeson, and Jim Broadbent...WOW. What a fun and unpredictable ride. The characters were so different from anything I've seen written. Cant wait to get it on DVD.
