Composer Michael Giacchino Scoring Matt Reeves' Let Me In

I feel like all we've been talking about this last week is all things Matt Reeves' Let Me In, from a trailer to a poster to even some comparison photos. I wish this news would have arrived in the earlier in the year, but it just hit now, and it's definitely worth mentioning. The Playlist points out that Oscar winning (it's so great to say that) composer Michael Giacchino has announced on his website that he'll be scoring Let Me In, the vampire thriller remake/re-adaptation of Let the Right One In. He's also scoring J.J. Abrams' new TV series "Undercovers" and he's set to score Andrew Stanton's John Carter of Mars by its release sometime in 2012.
This is exciting news because I think Giacchino is one of the best composers working today and Let Me In is one movie I'm hoping lives up to the original in every sense. If someone as talented as Giacchino is scoring, then that makes me even more excited to see (and hear) it. I'll admit when I first heard that rock song in the trailer I was a bit concerned we were going to get another one of these trendy pop rock soundtracks, but I'm much happier knowing Giacchino is scoring. There's just something about his scores that's always wonderful to hear. As far as we know, Overture Films still has Let Me In scheduled for release on October 1st this fall.

I'm so glad that Giacchino is getting the recognition he deserves. I've literally been following him for 15 years since he started on the animated series Gargoyles when I was a boy. This is great news for a project I really wanted to hate, but that seems to be shaping up nicely.

Ow, now i'm sold. I was already so excited for the movie and now i hear the music will be composed and not just from ripped tracks. Don't get me wrong: I love that rock-song in the trailer, and it would be fun in credits but ye can't fill the full movie with it. (BTW: i read somewhere that the rock-song could be from the band 'PLACEBO', but not released yet, if that's a rumor or not, i don't know)

This just keeps getting better and better. dare I say this one will achieve a better status than the Swedish version? perhaps, but I'll wait until it drops it theaters before I make a big judgement like that.
