Mark Wahlberg / Teddy Bear

Briefly: We reported a few weeks back that Mark Wahlberg was circling, but not fully confirmed, for the lead role in Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane's feature directing debut - a movie called Ted about a 33 year old man (Wahlberg) whose teddy bear (to be created with CGI and voiced by MacFarlane) comes to life when he's young and poses problems for him as an adult when it gets in the way of a relationship with his girlfriend. Deadline confirmed the news, saying Wahlberg is currently "negotiating" and hopes to shoot this next year after finishing a remake of Contraband. No more speculation, Wahlberg is pretty much set.

MacFarlane's Ted (the current working title) will be an R-rated buddy comedy financed by Media Rights Capital for $65 million, with Universal planning to distribute. Wahlberg will play an average Boston guy who's normal except for the childhood wish he made that his teddy bear could come to life -- and it did. Years later, the boy is an adult, and the bear is still his best friend. But the bear, a carousing, irresponsible slacker, is getting in the way of his buddy committing to adulthood and the girl he loves. This all sounds awesome and I'm looking forward to seeing it come together with Wahlberg. Stay tuned for more updates!

You know, the bear kind of looks like MacFarlane...

I think that image of the bear is from the video game 'Naughty Bear'. However, I can imagine MacFarlane's voice from it. This sounds like a fun little movie about the attachment of childhood versus the overbearing (pun intended) responsibility of adulthood. It reminds me of the formula of Liar Liar or Yes Man and with Wahlberg's working mans screen presence it might actually work.

This does sound pretty good, and Mark Wahlberg pissed off at a teddy bear sound pretty hilarious. I want to know who is writing the script. I know that McFarlane will probably have a say in the script, but is he the only one writing it? Any news on the writers of the film Alex?
