Dennis Iliadis

Given there's a few days left until Halloween is over, everyone's putting out all the horror news they got. 24 Frames reports that up-and-coming Greek filmmaker Dennis Iliadis, who directed the The Last House on the Left remake from last year, is negotiating to helm a new horror flick called The Demonologists. That title sounds quite badass, so what is this about? The Demonologists, written by Teddy Tenenbaum ("Ghost Whisperer"), concerns a family of veteran ghost hunters who get much more than they bargained for when they are called in to face what they soon realize is not a routine ghost job but a demon infestation. Ooooh!

Joel Silver's Silver Pictures is developing. Iliadis has been considering a number of projects, including The Birds remake at Platinum Dunes, but not much progress has been made on that, and another thriller called Pay the Ghost. This sounds like it has a unique concept, and something that hopefully won't be messing with "found footage" or a documentary style again, and will just be a straight forward feature (or so I hope). Not many people liked The Last House on the Left remake, but I at least thought it had a solid style, and if that's what Iliadis can continue to bring to his movies, while improving story, he's got a good career ahead of him.

i agree with no "found footage" alex (and no 3D, as well). too many movies are trying to rely on these gimmicks instead of coming up with solid films. also, when you say "family" - if you mean it's going to come off as the partridge family of ghosting with a pg rating - then i'll pass. i do very much like the sound of the story. if it's made as a series thriller/horror, then ghosthunters who get in over their heads has lots of frightening possibilities.
