Super 8 / Elle Fanning

We didn't expect to hear anything about this project for a while, but an inside source at Vulture has provided them with yet another scoop on J.J. Abrams' upcoming movie Super 8. If you recall, Vulture was the first to reveal early story details as well, so I trust their sources. They're saying that two actors have been cast in the Steven Spielberg throwback sci-fi drama: 12-year-old Elle Fanning, who was in Benjamin Button as well as the upcoming Nutcracker 3D and Sofia Coppola's Somewhere; and much-older actor Kyle Chandler, who plays Coach Taylor on NBC's "Friday Night Lights." No details on the roles they will be playing in it, though.

Others may remember a mysterious casting call Paramount held for 13 to 14 year old actors and actresses a few months ago, which was rumored to be for Super 8. Not much is known about the project besides that the story is supposed to be about some young kids in the midwest during the 70's (or so) who capture something "otherworldly" on their Super 8 camera. Oh and we all saw that crazy teaser trailer back in July, too. I first saw lil' Elle Fanning, younger sister of Dakota, in the indie drama Phoebe in Wonderland at Sundance years ago and knew she was just as talented (if not moreso) than her sister. She'll be a great choice for this, as she is a great actor for being only 12. Until we hear more on Super 8, everything is all speculation. Thoughts?

Kyle Chandler is a great actor, I love is work in FNL... As for Fanning, I haven't seen much of her work. Really looking forward for this. 🙂

I actually live in Weirton, WV where they are supposedly shooting a ton of footage. Me and some buddies are planning on watching some of the scenes. From what I have heard from some people who are going to be extras it is going to be set in the 70's and they want tons of middle and high school kids.
