Eric Bana Cast in Joe Wright's Upcoming Action Film 'Hanna'
by Alex Billington

After watching Eric Bana kick ass in Star Trek, I would love to see him get back into more action roles. Heat Vision is reporting that Bana has joined Joe Wright's new project Hanna starring Saoirse Ronan as a "teenage assassin." Bana will play her father in the story of a 14-year-old Eastern European girl saved from a CIA breeding camp and raised by her dad to be a cold-blooded killing machine. After finding peace with a French family, the girl is dragged back to her father's world, and she must fight her way to a free life. The script was written by newcomers Seth Lochhead & David Farr and has similarities to La Femme Nikita.
I'm looking forward to this project quite a bit just because of the talent that is involved and because it's an original idea (and we don't see those that often these days anymore). Joe Wright isn't my favorite director, but I was more than impressed by Atonement, and I've got a feeling he'll kick our ass right out of our seats with an action movie. And now with Saoirse Ronan and Eric Bana on-board, the cast is starting to shape up nicely as well. I've been a fan of Bana for a while but he hasn't done anything gritty and action intensive (besides Star Trek) since Munich and Troy in 2004. I'm also curious to see who else Wright casts in this.

You're right, we don't see original ideas anymore, so I am intrigued by this, esp since I am a fan of Ronan. Can't wait to learn more of this.

As if the idea of Joe Wright directing Saoirse Ronan in an action film wasn't interesting enough, they now add Eric Bana to the cast. Sounds like Bana might be playing a darker variation on his MUNICH role (for which he deserved an Oscar nomination, IMO). Any word yet on when filming starts?

Bana was one of the best parts of Funny People too so I'd love to see him take on more action roles. The guy can act.

Variety states that filming starts March in Germany. I've actually read the latest version the script, and its FANTASTIC. Easy to see why CUaron and Boyle were up for this one. And its a great role for Bana. Excited to see who they get for the female antagonist, which is the other big role. If Wright could somehow transition Blanchett from Indian Summer to this...that'd be brilliant.

Thanks, Kyle. Great suggestion about Wright getting Blanchette to join this project, as I think the two of them (and Bana and Ronan) would be perfect together! BTW, where did you hear that Boyle and Cuaron were interested in this?

Like Post-Slumdog Oscars...Danny Boyle was supposedly trying to decide between going forward with Hanna or jumping onto director "My Fair Lady". Of course, neither materialized. And when Variety/THR announced Joe Wright was to direct it, the trade release also said that Cuaron was attached only a few weeks earlier.
