First Bloody Animated Warhammer 40K 'Ultramarines' Teaser
"In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war…" Some of you may know that we've been writing about an upcoming animated movie based on Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 Space Marines called Ultramarines. After a couple of months of waiting, we now have a short first look at a very bloody teaser trailer (with actual footage) for the movie as found by Quiet Earth. Sadly, this is going to be going straight-to-DVD (not in theaters, as far as we know) but the good news is it features the voices of Terence Stamp and John Hurt (as heard in the trailer). This has the potential to be pretty awesome and I hope it delivers!
Watch the first full teaser trailer for Warhammer 40,000's Ultramarines, via YouTube:
Codex Pictures is developing Ultramarines, with Martyn Pick directing from a screenplay by Space Marines author Dan Abnett. There hasn't been an actual plot synopsis released for the movie, so we don't know much about the story. But as a recap on the concept, Ultramarines is an animated feature based on the elite force of Space Marines from the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop miniatures universe. This faction is called the "Ultramarines", identified by their blue colored armor and omega symbol (Ω). Word is that it will arrive on DVD/Blu-Ray sometimes this fall, but there's no actual release date yet. Visit: ultramarinesthemovie.com.
Never really a fan but it looks cool. Not THAT bloody though Alex lol. You got my hopes up.

I never played the games, but this does look great. Also: That wasn't very bloody at all, lol.

I might see this... but probably wont. But now if it was a live action film, you could count me in.
Tomi on Aug 23, 2010
if only it was live action................

It's a good thing this garbage isn't going to theaters. There's a plethora of so-so sci-fi films that are way better than this.
Eli on Aug 23, 2010
wow that was pretty cool! needs live action!
Xerxex on Aug 23, 2010
that was horrible

In Alex's defense, the headline to this article does read: "First Bloody Animated Warhammer 40K 'Ultramarines' Teaser" - keywords being "Bloody" and "Teaser". - It's bloody for a teaser. Give the man a break, he presented you with a trailer that you probably wouldn't have found on your own. Good trailer btw. CGI looks sick. =)

They look as plastic as the miniatures. Very boring.

Boring voice, poorly made animations, texturing and 3D and an odd style (oldish and odd) for such a film and overall feel for me was... Meh. We have first years at our university that can make so much better 3D and animation than was presented in this movie. Taken from the website: "Based on the internationally successful futuristic tableI-top war strategy game, WARHAMMER 40, 000, ULTRAMARINES uses state-of-the-art facial capture technology and stunning CGI animation to bring powerfully to life the Space Marines characters and their adversaries" They showed one face and all that was moving was his mouth, looked like something you'd expect from a 3D game... Like 10 years ago. Stunning CGI animation. Uhm, no. Codex is a new production company, members of their team worked on Bionicles, atleast that movie was viewable for children. I'll admit I'm not a fan of Warhammer but really, most of the trailer was just smoke. And do you really want to go see a movie from a trailer that shows your heroes/the lead roles (Space Marines) getting killed? I agree with you that if they are to make a Warhammer 40k movie it should be live action, or atleast life-like animations.

well that looked good.

I was going to say something but #10 hit the nail on the head
Mir on Aug 24, 2010
I'm surprised its not based on the BloodRavens.
Arslaan on Aug 24, 2010
Didn't grab me at all. Couldn't mistake the vioce of John Hurt doing the voice over though.
Marty on Aug 24, 2010
Yup, #10 really did nail it, I wasn't impressed or interested at all sadly.

Oh cmon , 'Greatest of them all' ? What about the Grey Knights?
mandarin on Aug 24, 2010
Looks like crap. The in game graphics for the upcoming Space Marine game look 10x better than this "movie." The voice acting seems to be good. Have to agree with #10. Why would they show Space Marines DYING, instead of kicking some ass?
Neil on Aug 24, 2010
Utter shit...why even bother with this? Nostalgic purposes?

Hamster eyes melting, that was terrible. I remember as a kid going into those places that sold Space Marines and the fat beardy guys that were into it, it was a scary world and a smelly one.
Crapola on Aug 26, 2010
This looks terrible, the animation doesnt even compare to the cinematics from the warhammer computer games

I was hoping this would be left alone until Peter Jackson had nothing pressing to do as he's the only one who can do the theme justice. Actually a Pete J and James C combo would have to be the one. My fingers are crossed that it won't suck too much. 🙂

Peter Jackson would have had the means at his disposal to make an awesome 40k movie. There is still time!! The second trailer is A LOT better, and goes some way to obliterating the memory of the first one. 🙂 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vF_VLZotWc

I have just finished watching the Ultramarines movie on DVD, and yes the graphics are not Avatar but once you get swept up in the plot, and immersed in the world, it is all good. I agree it is a solid film where it counts, in the atmosphere, and an encouraging start for a small independent company . I liked some of the lines from the film, and thought they would make comically awesome ring tones... Then I found out today you can download them here! http://www.ultramarinesthemovie.com/widget
