Though he's produced comedies like Ghost Town and the darker Zombieland producer Gavin Polone (above right) has also ventured into darker territory further back in his career with Panic Room and 8MM. Now it looks like the longtime producer is making the jump the director's chair as The Wrap reports Polone is set to re-team with Se7en screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker (who also wrote 8MM) for Psycho Killer. Horror favorite Eli Roth is producing the story of a nameless, masked murderer who leaves a trail of victims across the U.S. However, a chance encounter resulting in another victim leaves a survivor who may give him more than he bargained for.
During a random murder of a highway patrolman in Nebraska, his young wife, a fellow officer, watches from afar and, following the murder, sets out to find the killer as he plans a mass murder that will guarantee him a spot in hell. This seems like a little too specific information for the story, but apparently the film will follow the title character for the first 20% of the film before splitting and following both the cop and the killer independently until they come together for the film's bloody climax.
Casting is underway and a rising female star is being sought for the lead female role. Sounds like a potentially interesting thriller, and if Walker can inject just a little of the brilliance he displayed with Se7en then we might be in for a treat. Studio Canal found success earlier this year with Eli Roth upon the release of The Last Exorcism, so I'm sure they're hoping for another audience drawing thriller. As soon as we hear anything regarding casting for Psycho Killer, we'll let you know. Anyone interested?

earlier this year I read about Psycho Killer script and it was said it was one of the best unproduced scripts. The director makes me a bit nervous, as though he's been only a producer, but behind Panic Room and 8MM, both AKW/Fincher associated projects. Hopefully he gets some help from both on his first directing gig. This is quite possibly the only time I ever got worried about the choice of director - and a good reason to, since this is really great material he's going to be working on and a capable director is essential.
