New Line has debuted the official trailer for Going the Distance, the long-distance relationship romantic comedy starring real-life couple Justin Long and Drew Barrymore, over on MSN tonight. This movie is a big debut for both the writer and director and was hailed as one of the most realistic scripts dealing with long-distance relationships. I had really high hopes for this at the start and even got to check out the script, but this trailer looks a lot worse than I was expecting. There's some really, really cheesy stuff in it and I feel like it got a little dumbed down, but I'll still give this a chance when it hits theaters in August. Check it out!

A look at the trials and tribulations of a long-distance relationship with Justin Long and Drew Barrymore.
Going the Distance is directed by up-and-coming filmmaker Nanette Burstein, who previously directed the hit documentaries On the Ropes, The Kid Stays in the Picture and American Teen, and is making her feature directing debut with this movie. The screenplay was written by first-time screenwriter Geoff LaTulippe and was included on the industry Black List a few years ago. New Line Cinema is bringing Going the Distance to theaters everywhere starting on August 27th this fall. Look like something you'll catch in theaters or not?

This looks pretty good even though I'm not a big rom-com fan. Although some parts were a little cheesy, it will be interesting to see Long in a slightly more mature role, and Sudeikis could be funny in this.

Jim Gaffigan! I'll watch this just for that one line 🙂 I usually don't like romantic comedies because they try to be funny. This looks more like reality that has humor as a side-effect. DJ Dad and sex-on-table aside.

It honestly doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. I'm all for Jim Gaffigan, too...

I'm surprised how decent this looks. I hate rom-coms but I'm not gonna lie, I might have to go see this...

As someone who met her husband online on the forum of a band we both liked and went through a 2 1/2 year long long distance relationship (Germany - USA), I can honestly say that this movie looks a lot more realistic than all the other generic rom-coms. Talking on the phone or online for hours, phone sex, inevitable trust issues now and then, jealousy, heartache because you miss the other one terribly, butterflies and crazy sex when you finally meet? Yeah, I can relate to that. Of course they added some crazy situations to make it funnier, but judging from this trailer, I think it grasps the essence of a long distance relationship quite well.

That bit with Gaffigan was perfect and I love Justin Long, but it's hard for me to buy that any guy would go to this much trouble for Drew Barrymore.

This movie looks greaaaat, but it`s rated R for some odd reason.. maybe its because there`s nudity? i'm 18 so im not too worried, but I have plans with someone younger to go to the movie with.. if anyone knows why, let me know 🙂

Well as a female who was in a long distance relationship for about a year and kind of on and off since then I would say alot of phone calls and IMing or emails and things sounds about right. It was very hard at times but love is worth the work. Not to mention the sexual part of it. Phone sex was very much a factor for us. Got to keep your man satisfyed.
