Hathaway / Zombie / McAvoy

After losing director David O. Russell and leading lady Natalie Portman, the gestating adaptation of the period drama remix Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was pretty much dead in the water. But the project seemed to get new life after writer, director and actor Mike White was brought on to helm the adaptation. Now it looks like the casting machine is up and running again (or at least the rumor mill) as Pajiba has learned that Anne Hathaway is being considered for the lead role of Elizabeth Bennett while James McAvoy might be lined up to play Mr. Darcy. However, keep in mind that these names aren't anywhere near being officially attached yet.

Remember, the same source also recently revealed that Hathaway might be attached to another longer gestating project, the remake of Barbarella which has been stuck in development hell for years. Funnily enough, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies has been in the same boat, but for a lesser amount of time. Even after Portman exited, names like Scarlett Johansson were being considered for the lead female role, and Hathaway is likely one of those actresses who appears on almost every project's wish list for casting. However, this casting update does seem rather intriguing (if not simply wishful thinking) since the two both starred in Becoming Jane, a drama focusing on Pride and Prejudice author Jane Austen before she became the acclaimed author we know today. This could be a convenient rumor, brilliant casting or both. What do you think?

Wasnt Keira Knightley also rumored to play her before Portman a long ass time ago? The idea sounded cool at first but after so much shuffling in the cast and crew (especially a director and lead actress) it seems destined to be a total flop or fall on its ass again.

James McAvoy makes another great choice for Darcy, being scottish gives makes him a better fit than Bradly Cooper who makes a great American Yuppie, but might be a little to American for a British Aristocrate. Think I prefer Anne over Scarlett for Elizabeth. Wonder if Scarlett would play Jane?

Hathaway is everywhere man....If only she was beautiful...as in with curves. She is talented but not beautiful enough. @ least she is better than Kiera as far as curves are concerned of course 🙂

That book was so overrated...I don't foresee the movie being any better.

Perhaps this is Hathaway's chance to get outta her rut of bland comedies? I'm excited, McAvoy plus Hathaway is good news.

I don't like McAvoy for Darcy. Love the actor but like other Jane Austen addicts, I have strong ideas about what Mr. Darcy should be -- like, tall. Has anyone asked Elliott Cowan, for example, who has the right sarcastic bent and irreverent humor to be either a vampire or a really cool vampire fighter? McAvoy has the chops for drama and action movies, but shouldn't the leads for this movie have a way with comedy, too? With McAvoy as Mr. Darcy, this movie is already dead in the water -- I don't care who you get for Elizabeth. Hathaway is fine and Scarlett may be right for Jane --I know the ages are not quite right, but if Guy Pearce can play Colin Firth's OLDER brother, then Scarlett can get way as Hathaway's older but oh-so-sweet and pliant sister.
