Hayden Christensen Cast in David R. Ellis' The Genesis Code

Hayden Christensen

Myriad Pictures has officially announced today that Hayden Christensen will star in Snakes on a Plane director David R. Ellis' newest project The Genesis Code, based on John Case's novel of the same name. Christensen will play a former national security expert who, while investigating the murder of his only sister and her son, discovers that a religious sect called The Shadow of the Cross is involved. With the help of his sister's friend, they follow the clues to a clinic in the mountains of Italy, where a terrifying secret experiment has been conducted – successfully. Have they created mutants or something or is this a Resident Evil copy?

Similar to Vincenzo Natali's Splice, this thriller brings up some interesting questions concerning the use of DNA material and the ethics of genetic engineering. "[Hayden's] passion for the character of Joe Lassiter and the world he inhabits – of religion, politics and secret operatives – was apparent to all of us involved in the project. It is this kind of commitment that we know will lead to a compelling performance," says Myriad CEO Kirk D'Amico. I hope that's true, even though this sounds a little too weird (crazy religious sects and genetics?) to hope for a great performance out of him. I'm more worried about the story being any good!

For those who don't remember, David R. Ellis is the former second unit director and stunt coordinator who became a feature director and brought us Final Destination 2, Cellular, Snakes on a Plane, and The Final Destination. He's attached to quite a few other projects, including the creepy alien/redneck horror project Humpty Dumpty and Shark Night 3D (which I was hoping he'd direct next). Myriad is still developing this and looking to finance it at the Cannes marketplace, so we're not sure how soon it'll go into production. With Christensen and Ellis, I don't expect this film to be any good, but I guess you never know. Stay tuned!

i have to agree with #1 - WTF alex?. HC can be very good if given decent material.........he was great in "shattered glass". this story could be good.........it certainly can't be worse than "angels and demons" . (a movie this site continually talked up but ended up being a total mess as far as the plot.) right now, i'm interested to hear more and looking forward to a trailer.

^ I think that was someone who was just yelling at me to yell at me (hence why I deleted the comment). Anyway, I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in feeling that way about this. You really think Hayden Christensen is a good actor with a lot of talent? I mean, come on... Did you see Star Wars?

He did a fine-enough job in Jumper...

im gonna go out on a limb here and say this movie will suck, how does this kid keep getting work? do movie producers not watch his movies? hes terrible. he practically single handedly ruined the last 2 star wars movie (jar jar wasnt in them enough to ruin them), jumper was horrendous, and the worst part is? theyre making 'jumper 2'. people go to movies to enjoy them not turn their brains to permanent mush.

I saw Star Wars Alex and I liked Hayden in ROTS. Do you remember the boxoffice numbers? I was shocked by the fan boy reaction afterwards as if a vendetta was declared on him. And then.....the reaction at the announcement of each new role before the movies ever came out. Did you see Shattered Glass and Life as a House or Awake or Factory Girl? NOT WOODEN! He doesn't have a big enough body of work yet to enjoy such panning.

My thoughts exactly #4. Why is he getting jobs? He's just eye candy for the movie

in response: no, i don't think HC is one of the "greats". and i've never seen ANY starwars movies - i'm more of a "star trek" person.......so i can't comment on that. i've never seen jumper because i felt the concept was ridiculous. as i said above - HC was very good in "shattered glass". you all should check it out because it's an interesting movie based on a true story. i just thought it's POSSIBLE he could put out a decent performance in this.

Maybe if the role was...."Concrete brick on sidewalk" Id actually be interested but hes a main character automatically making this movie shitty.

And Star Wars is some kind of great display of acting prowess? Lucas can make the best of actors like Ewan McGregor wooden, he's simply incapable of inspiring great performances from his actors. I don't think Christensen is a good actor, but please use some better reasoning other than "He sucked in Star Wars".

If Hayden sucks so much then why is he famous? You have to admit he isn`t bad. You peple have different tastes when it comes to actors. Give him a break, and even if you think he acted bad please give more than ~He sucked ****~ please. He is an actor who just needs to find more in himself. And yes, I am a fan of Hayden Christensen.
