Hugh Jackman Hypes Up Working with Aronofsky on 'Wolverine'

Darren Aronofsky / Hugh Jackman Wolverine

First, congrats to Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan for a fantastic opening weekend. For as much discussion as there's been surrounding Aronofsky's take on The Wolverine, one person we haven't heard much from is Hugh Jackman. However, Entertainment Weekly finally caught up with the actor/singer, who spoke in detail about some of the prep he's doing and how excited he is to work with Darren. He's also been asked to gain 25 lbs of muscle, "which is more than I ever have for the role" he says, so he actually called up Dwayne Johnson for advice. "I rang him up and was like, Okay, tell me what's going on." More of his quotes below!

When asked about Aronofsky, Jackman gushed (which is pretty much what we do, too): "I love every one of his movies," he says. "He's a visionary. I've been trying to get Darren since X-Men 3, really. We've been talking about this and Wolverine for so long." The two recently had a casual meeting, but Jackman says his ideas lit him up. "He just ran a few ideas by me and my eyes just lit up, because already I think this is like a whole new ballgame - just the ideas, the level of depth, and intelligence and creativity. I think he's been waiting so long to do a movie in this genre. When he found the script, he said this is it. It's really exciting."

I don't think I need to explain why I'm actually pretty damn excited for The Wolverine, despite coming off of a rather poor Wolverine prequel. Whenever you bring that up to Darren, he replies "what other movie?" like it doesn't exist. That's the way it should be - this is a standalone movie and Darren's take on it is going to be unique, unlike any superhero movie we've seen before. I know this is just blatant hype, but I'm excited. And of course, make sure you go see Black Swan in limited release, and expanding wide release for Christmas!

Aronofsky is the man. Now I'm hearing a potential Best Director nod (for black swan) at the oscars. The man deserves.

ASS. TO. ASS. (translation: awesome) Bring back KronosQ for a super-emotional score and send Nolan weeping to Snyder while the gauntlet is being passed.

My all time Favorite movie: The Fountain which was directed by Aronofsky and starred Hugh Jackman Now with Wolverine, my all time favorite Comic book hero, I am getting BOTH Aronofsky AND Hugh Jackman? Words can not even begin to help me express my happiness right now. I feel like a 5 yearold in a Candy store!

@5 Clint Mansell created the score for the Fountain with Kronos Quartet & Mogwai (as well as on Requiem). One of the greatest scores ever.

I'm super excited for this movie....Aronofsky is without a doubt one of the most creative directors of the past ten years....and i love that there making it a standalone rather then linking it to "that other movie"
