Interview: Animal Kingdom Writer & Director David Michôd
by Alex Billington
August 10, 2010
One of my favorite indie gems of 2010 is a phenomenal Australian film called Animal Kingdom (watch the trailer). Despite the very Disney-sounding name, the film is an intense crime drama about a family of criminals from Melbourne's underworld. I first saw it at the Sundance Film Festival and totally loved it but didn't have time to catch up with writer/director David Michôd until he came to Los Angeles a few weeks ago. Below you will find the complete video interview with Michôd, who spoke about developing the film, his history, and odd path to becoming a filmmaker, as it's a bit strange. Read on to watch the video below!
Watch my video interview with Animal Kingdom writer and director David Michôd:
For those of you in New York and Los Angeles, Animal Kingdom arrives in theaters starting this weekend, August 13th, so definitely try and make an effort to see it! You can watch the trailer online and also watch a video review from Sundance and read Brandon's short 8 out of 10 star review of the film, which also won the World Cinema Jury Prize at Sundance. Animal Kingdom stars Guy Pearce, Joel Edgerton, Ben Mendelsohn, Jacki Weaver and James Frecheville. I hope this interview brings some extra attention to the movie as it's a fantastic flick and deserves to be seen! Visit the official US website for release info. Thanks for watching!
