J.J. Abrams

There's no denying that J.J. Abrams is one sneaky bastard and that he has a passionate love affair with mysteries and secrets. After all the mystery and excitement surrounding Cloverfield swept the internet by storm, it looks like we might be in store for another Abrams-fueled cinematic puzzle of sorts as HitFix has discovered that a brand new mystery movie will be introduced later this weekend with a secret trailer that is attached to copies of Iron Man 2. The project, given the title of Super 8 thanks to the trailer, will only be produced by Abrams (like Cloverfield), but apparently Abrams himself directed the attached secret trailer.

Though the surprise of an unknown and mysterious trailer is no longer secret, HitFix was kind enough not to spoil the trailer for us (mainly because they haven't seen it and don't know what it looks like), however Vulture seems to have more details (if you want to spoil it). We'll definitely have a recap after the midnight shows of Iron Man 2 on Thursday. HitFix (and Vulture) have heard that the trailer is rumored to be for the intermittently talked about Cloverfield sequel, which if true would ruin some of the mystery, but coming from Abrams and his Bad Robot banner, this rumor is to be expected. Maybe it has something to do with another secret Abrams project known as 500 Rads? No one knows, and J.J. Abrams absolutely loves that.

Abrams truly is the master of mystery, secrets and the like. This is a guy who directed a teaser trailer under a fake title and even tricked the crew into thinking they were working on a remake of a teen sex comedy. In this day and age of the internet and knowing everything within seconds, that's incredibly impressive, and the fact that we're just now finding out about this project now is even more impressive. So join us in getting even more excited for Iron Man 2 with the addition of this brand new J.J. Abrams fueled mystery. And stay tuned as this secret trailer will likely be the start of a viral and so much more. See you on Thursday night!

This is great, I wish we could go back to the old days before we knew everything about a movie before the trailer even came out. Kudos J.J., kudos.

I want to see Super 8, but I fear that it will suck as bad as cloverfield.  I will wait for reviews first.  Cloverfield really sucked and the trailers were all hype.  I don't like being disappointed.

Man I love JJ...just watched MI3 again last night and the man sure knows how to add fresh ideas to tired concepts. Can't wait to hear what he's got coming out of his "mystery box" next.

great...another huge buildup for a project that will in all probability REEK and not be anywhere near as good as the teaser trailers, just like that steaming turd Cloverfield.....more snake oil from St. JJ the Hack....

Yeah. He'll lead you on, buy you dinner, invite you in for coffee-- and then tell you he's celibate. His "surprises" aren't "surprises"... they're big, bad tease festivals that end in something totally dull and not worth all the anticipation. And THAT is what makes all of this so exciting for no good reason.

Cloverfield was epic. Haters suck nuts. Peace.

The reason why they aren't great is because as humans we build them up to be so much more than they can possibly be-

Agree with #7...Cloverfield was, and will continue to be Epic... can't wait for Super 8! Everyone else can suck it...

Yes @ 7 and 9, cloverfield was sick as hell, haters probably didnt get into the viral campaign 6 months before, or there just being themselves.....haters. Cant wait for the trailer.

Cloverfield was fucking awesome, and still the greatest movie marketing of all time, including the greatest teaser trailer of all time. I saw it before an advanced screening of Transformers with no previous knowledge of it (like basically everyone), and I spent most of the feature thinking about that trailer.

Why is Jar Jar Abrams allowed to continue to ruin movies? MI:3 was one giant rip-off of Alias, Cloverfield was utterly forgettable and Star Trek was brainless trash. He needs to stick to television.

Saw it. It's the trailer for Mission impossible 4.

regardless of the movies success or what people think about cloverfield. i think the marketing of that movie and the hype alone as great.

My brother got to see this trailer. He didn't reveal much, but said it has something to do with Area 51.
