We already heard that The A-Team star Liam Neeson is re-teaming with director Joe Carnahan for The Grey, a story about a group of pipeline workers who find themselves hunted by a pack of wolves after their plane crashes. Now Deadline reports Carnahan is attached to direct Umbra for Endgame, a thriller from writer Steven Karczynski which follows a man who finds an old cassette tape that reveals a horrifying secret. There don't seem to be any details beyond that logline, but Carnahan will re-write the script before he starts shooting. However, it's not clear how soon he'll start on the project since he's currently casting for The Grey.
Carnahan has had some trouble getting projects together in the past with White Jazz and Killing Pablo, but the success of The A-Team this past summer probably gave his career a good boost. As much as I enjoyed A-Team, I'm interested to see what Carnahan can do with a more low-key project where ridiculous action isn't the star of the film. Umbra almost came together last year with director Roger Donaldson and Nicolas Cage, but it never got off the ground. So far Carnahan doesn't have any talent attached to the thriller, but well keep you posted as more information becomes available. Sound like something any of you guys might be interested in?
