Juan Carlos Fresnadillo Directing Intruders Before BioShock?
by Alex Billington
February 23, 2010
Last we heard, Spanish filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (of Intacto and 28 Weeks Later previously) was set to direct the BioShock movie for Universal supposedly later sometime this year. Doesn't look like that's the case though. Fangoria is reporting (via STYD) that Fresnadillo has become attached to another new project called Intruders. Not much is known about it except that it's a "a genre piece whose story revolves around an 11-year-old girl" written by Fresnadillo as well. And Fangoria says that production will start in mid-May on this one. So is BioShock on hold once again? We're not sure, but I have a feel it is.
Unfortunately no one knows anything else about this project, so there's not much more to say. I became of fan of Fresnadillo after seeing 28 Weeks Later because I think he's a strong director with a good vision and adds a unique style to his films. He's also attached to a handful of other projects in addition to BioShock and Intruders, including the X: The Man with the X-Ray Eyes remake over at MGM and another project called Wednesday at DreamWorks with this plot: "A desperate carjacker sets on an unusual chain of events one day in Los Angeles." Whatever Fresnadillo directs next, I'm already looking forward to it, so stay tuned!

If done right, Rapture could really come to life. It would take some tweaking of the story itself but I would love to see it on the big screen.

#2 Wentworth Miller was still listed on the IMDB page when I checked it a few days ago. I liked the guy in Prison Break, but I don't think he's right for a BioShock movie.

don't follow the game plot for Bioshock, instead follow Ryan, Fontaine, Tenebaum, or a citizen of Rapture and its decent into madness, that is the only possible way to make Bioshock film work. As for Intuders it sounds pretty good, I'm in.

@ Alex Yeah, sorry, we were talking about BioShock. As for Intruders... well, there's really not enough information about it yet for me to decide whether I'm interested or not.

It makes a lot more sense to wait on Bioshock, as they're bound to release the third game before a Bioshock movie is actually released, and hopefully flesh things out to the point that a cohesive film plot can be devised.. I totally agree that following the first game's plot will make a typical, stupid video game movie. Or a movie which establishes a bunch of new nonsensical canon.

Mark, Bioshock creators have stated they plan to release Bioshock 3 to coincide with the film.

#4 - I agree. They could do A LOT with this concept; they don't need to stick to the original narrative, although I must admit ditching the thrill of "would you kindly" would sadden me. But I'd rather see them dig into the backstory of Rapture and flesh out the world, because the dramatic possibilities are endless.

#11 you are right about the Would You Kindly. I didn't really notice it until the end and I think they could do the same in the movie. But since I don't think they should follow Jack, they might ditch it. The 3rd game with the movie? OMG, that'll be 2012 at the EARLIEST!!
