After the recent announcement of a New York based follow-up to the indie romantic comedy 2 Days in Paris, it's a surprise to hear that French actress turned director Julie Delpy is lining up another directing gig so soon, as Comme Au Cinema (via The Playlist) reports she is set to direct the French language comedy Skylab, which focuses on an eccentric family around the time the titular NASA space station came crashing down to Earth in 1979 just six years after going into orbit. Being the diverse filmmaker she is, Delpy will also star in the film along with another actress/director Noemie Lvovsky as well as Eric Elmonsnino.
Delpy is a truly talented woman who has not only delivered solid performances in films like Before Sunrise and Before Sunset, but has also directed charming films like 2 Days in Paris, not to mention the fact that she wrote, produced, starred in and composed the music for that film as well. Surely the eccentric family at the center of the story will provide a great palette for Delpy's care with her characters and their relationships in addition to the fact that she grew up around the time the Skylab incident happened, so she has a unique perspective on that time, and how she viewed the concept of family at a young age. Stay tuned for updates!
