Justin Theroux Writing & Directing Paramount's Zoolander 2

Yep, it's coming. After hearing rumors about it for years, it's actually happening. Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Paramount has hired Justin Theroux (who wrote Tropic Thunder and Iron Man 2 and has only directed Dedication) to write and direct Zoolander 2, the sequel to Ben Stiller's male fashion model comedy from 2001. Apparently Theroux is even going to Fashion Week in Paris to "immerse himself on what is current in fashion." I guess Paramount heard all the cries for this sequel because they finally admit that "it's got momentum." They just now realized that? I know people have been hoping to see this since 2001!
Deadline doesn't say much else about the sequels besides that Ben Stiller is back and "everyone's hoping Owen Wilson co-stars again but no deal is set." They also sneak in a little tidbit that says Jonah Hill is in negations to play the villain. What the hell? Apparently the studio still is unsure of the success of the first one (even though it's a huge cult favorite), so they're trying to keep the budget below $50 million which is causing a bit of a ruckus. But, of course, everyone does want to come back and "bring Derek and Hanzel to life again." Last May, Stiller hinted about some plot elements, but who knows how much of that is still in.
I know this may be fantastic news for some of you, but I'm not a big fan of Zoolander. However, I respect its cult status (or maybe it's more of a guilty pleasure?) and I'm sure a lot of people will be excited by all of this. Deadline also adds that it'll be PG-13 again but that's everything. So who is excited for this late sequel?

I'm insanely excited for this. I really hope Owen Wilson does return. It just wouldn't be the same without him.

Theroux is such a good writer, and Stiller a director, I dont see why they just dont pull another Tropic Thunder instead of giving Theroux full control. Either way though, Im psyched.

Second funniest movie of all time next to A Night At The Roxbury. By the time I finished reading the title I had fresh white stain on the inside of my boxers.

I think the funniest stuff from the original was the storyline about Zoolander's fall from grace and return to the top. I don't really see what the point of the sequel is or where they'd go with the story without taking the character out of the element they created so well in the first one. Just seems unnecessary to me.

Loved Zoolander but like other original/solo movies, I hate this idea. It is the age of sequels/prequels/reboots/etc

I agree with Paul (#9) even though I'm for this. It could easily fall into the realm of unnecessary.

I actually like this sequel. A good while after the first one in order to make sure it is going to be a good production and time to let the first one sink in to our culture, perfect

Sweet! Hope it's not just another rumor. Between this and the Goyer Superman this is a pretty excellent day for movie news!

Wow Hill is getting signed to heaps! What is this... 3 new projects for him in the space of a week?! Congrats to him, but was never a fan of Zoolander... so I probably won't see this.

Oh yes please! Zoolander is so fucking ridiculous, it's awesome! "What is this? A center for ants? How can we be expected to teach children to learn how to read... if they can't even fit inside the building? The building has to be at least... three times bigger than this!" xD

I'm an ambi-turner myself. Night at the Roxbury was drivel. Zoolander was inspired.

Well with the number of fans out there it will most likely be a hit, but for me it needs Wilson to return so that it doesn’t just end up all about Ben Stiller. It needs that strong second character so you don’t get tired of Stiller and Wilson does it so well in the first it would be a shame if he didn't return.

So... Is Jonah Hill gonna be Mugatu's Long lost son looking for revenge? I'm not a fan of his but as long as Wilson comes back and we see some more Maury Ballstein with cameo's from Billy Zane and Winona Ryder again... I'm freakin' jacked! "Well, you can Dere-lick my balls, cap-i-tan."

Maybe the most over rated film of all time....well Stiller's performance was simply un-funny and inept at best......what a tragic way to milk $$$$ from an unassuming public. Wilson was the only saving grace and if he does return, he will phone it in.

Ben Stiller already said that Zoolander wouldn't be Zoolander without Hansel. He does come back.

Been waiting for this.....and I generally hate me some Stiller, but the 1st one was a quintessential modern comedy and under good writing this has a lot of potential. Obviously I want to see Mugatu.
