Marvel Briefs: Oliver Platt in X-Men, Avengers Shooting in 3D
We've said before that with the amount of 3D movies, announcements will soon only be made when a given blockbuster won't be in 3D. However, now the new trend is to make sure audiences knows that a movie was actually shot in 3D as opposed to being converted in post-production. For upcoming projects from Marvel, we already know that Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger will be converted into 3D, but now we have word from Showbiz 411 that The Avengers will actually be shot in 3D. Cool, I guess. On the slightly more exciting side of things, X-Men: First Class has just added Oliver Platt to its growing cast. Read on!
Deadline has the scoop on Platt joining Matthew Vaughn's ensemble comic book adaptation as a character known only as "The Man in Black." Apparently this odd character is neither a mutant nor a reincarnation of the mysterious character from "Lost." Okay, so who is he? Tons of casting news keeps coming out of the woodwork for X-Men: First Class. Just last night we heard the lovely Rose Byrne would play Professor X's love interest Moira McTaggart; over the weekend it was also reported that Jason Flemyng would be playing Azazel, a mutant who is father to Nightcrawler (of X-Men 2). There's probably a little bit more casting down the road, too. After all, we still don't have anyone lined up for Cyclops yet. Stay tuned for the latest updates!

Well, it's cool that it will be shot in 3D rather than converted, but I'm a pass on the 3D version, at least until I know it's worth the extra dolo.

'm not that bothered about 3D. I'm happy to see Thor, Captain America, and the Avengers in 2D. As an Aussie science fiction writer I’ve been a Marvel Thor fan since the original Journey into Mystery of August 1962. If you get a chance check out some of my Marvel (mainly Thor) fan fiction. McAvoy should be great in this film. He looks to be in a fantastic starring role in the upcoming Robert Redford film, "The Conspirator." There's more information on it here: http://www.theamericanfilmcompany.com/films/detail/the-conspirator
