Must Watch: Fantastic International Animal Kingdom Trailer
by Alex Billington
March 26, 2010
Don't be confused, this isn't a Disney movie at all. Animal Kingdom is the incredibly intense and highly praised gang drama from Australia that played at Sundance earlier this year (watch our video review). Back in December, an early teaser hit, but this is the trailer that everyone needs to watch to understand what this movie is and why it's so damn good. I know it's hard to get excited for something without seeing any footage when there's buzz coming from a big festival, but now we've got this trailer to introduce you to one of the best films coming out of Sundance this year. Although I think it does show a little too much. Watch below.
Watch the international trailer for David Michôd's Animal Kingdom:
Be sure to check out the official website for the film located at: animalkingdommovie.com
Animal Kingdom is both written and directed by Australian filmmaker David Michôd. Here's a great little blurb from the Sundance guide: "Wielding a formidable cinematic lexicon, writer/director David Michôd shows complete command of every frame as he shifts between simmering intensity and gut-wrenching drama. There isn't a false note in the film as it follows through on the tantalizing promise displayed in his shorts and unleashes a fierce new voice in Australian cinema." Make sure you add this to your list of films to see from Sundance, it's worth it! Sony Pictures Classics picked this up but hasn't set an opening yet.

Also I heard it was set in the 1980's, I am dead certain no armed response units back then were sporting the kit that officer had in that brief look. Theres no way they carried M4 assualt rifles.

So if this trailer shows too much, and I'm already planning on seeing it, should I watch it or will it spoil the film?

I think they were trying to achieve with the Air Supply song what Scorcese achieved with the Lala(reprise) for Goodfellas. I for one loved the use of "All out of Love". Looks gripping and I'm diggning the feel.

Oh come on. Am I the only one that thinks this looks lame. Australian crime movie? LOL. Give me a break.

No well know actors. No well know director. And a story that takes place in a part of the world, nobody cares about. Fail.

I don't think you have to worry about it showing too much, Alex. It's all so disconnected, with so may people I didn't recognize, that I had no idea what was going on in it at all. But I still thought it looked great.

I think it sucks that I'll never see this in our cinemas here in the Philippines and I'll have to settle for a download. And the Air Supply song wasn't that bad. I like how they played it during the really instense scenes. Gave me goosebumps a bit. Klo and KepaX should make out.

The best thing about Australia, (I'm assuming), is that Kfucknuckle and Kdickchimney don't live here, and if they do, piss off somewhere else.

In the late 80's two Victorian Police members were ambushed in the Melbourne's Walsh St, South Yarra whilst checking on a stolen car. Both were brutally murdered. I think this story maybe based on the Pettingill and Pierce family who were involved in bashings, drugs, murder, extortion and the list goes on. The majority of this family is now dead or in jail. If I'm right the story looks like it's based on that. This should be interesting.

Does Ben Mendelsohn have to be in EVERY Australian film?
Tim Tam on Apr 16, 2010

@Tim Tam - lol could be worse, it could be Bill Hunter - he's just about in EVERYTHING :O This movie is based on the Kath Pettingill family of Melbourne, which had their time in the 80's 😉
