Must Watch: First Funky Trailer for Danny Boyle's 127 Hours
Are you ready? Apple has debuted the first official trailer for Danny Boyle's highly anticipated follow-up to Slumdog Millionaire - 127 Hours starring James Franco as real-life mountain climber Aron Ralston. I love the way this is setup, Boyle's films are always so fresh and unique, but this is also quite trippy. I'm also not sure about all the over-the-top adventuring he does with Kate Mara and Amber Tamblyn, that looks a bit too much like Franco takes some Hollywood hotties on a hiking trip. But I guess it is good characterization, setting him up to change. If you can't figure it out, Franco gets pinned there for 127 hours. I hope it delivers!

127 Hours is directed by Oscar winner Danny Boyle, of Trainspotting, The Beach, 28 Days Later, Sunshine and Slumdog Millionaire previously. "We want it to be a challenge for you guys as well… to see if you can watch it," Boyle said. In the first look post, Boyle said "you will want him to cut off his arm by the end." As well as Franco, the cast includes Lizzy Caplan, Kate Mara, Amber Tamblyn and the lovely Clémence Poésy. It also had two cinematographers, Anthony Dod Mantle and Enrique Chediak, who follow Franco through POV dialogue in some scenes. Fox Searchlight scheduled 127 Hours for limited release starting November 5th.

Can't go wrong with some Danny Boyle.

You know I really want to see this, but I don't think this trailer captures the tone of this film at all. It's mainly upbeat and not at all showcasing the horrors his character will go threw during the film.It also focuses on his interaction with other characters instead of the one-man-show it will be for most of the film.

#4 So, you're saying it doesn't show the whole movie in the trailer and will actually be surprising people at the theater? Awesome!
SuicidalOptimist on Aug 24, 2010
its the first trailer shadow, more to come. I'm in, Franco has really moved up in the acting game.
Xerxex on Aug 24, 2010
I love the style Boyle used in this. I'm excited 🙂

Ive been familiar with this story for a while because the documentary crew that origianlly told his story on 60 minutes I think it was also did a story on my family not too long after. I can't wait to see this!

In the end, it's all franco. He's gonna make or break this film. While i hated slumdog this looks like it could be interesting. I just hope the enitere movie dosen;t take place in the rock. Mabye half and half. i love the way this trailer ends though. Classic "hes fucked" feeling

Wow. I wasn't expecting much from this but it got to me a little.

The one thing that I always loved about Boyle's films are the cinematography. The price of admission alone is worth just for that.

I have to agree with #4 I've been ignoring the FS posts on this and had no idea what it was about till I saw his hand get caught. I read about this in Backpacking, Adventure, Outside ect. Unless Boyle is going somewhere else with this, this movie is not going to be what the trailer implies. I understand we don't want all the best or funny parts of a movie spoiled before we go watch it. (which is why I almost never watch featurettes if I know I want to see the movie already) but at the same time this feels almost irresponsible or deceitful if the story is going to be anything like what I've read. What if we got into The Expendables and found it was really a chick flick? Also, I hate when they advertise a movie with cut/alternate scenes that might be on the DVD but aren't actually in the movie.

If that trailer was a shortmovie it could win awards... haha Looks cool. But doesnt say much about the film...

Looks great, like the way its done, lighthearted start but when it gets to the meat of the story doesnt give everything away like most trailers these day. Think Franco was inspired casting. Been waiting for this and "The Bang Bang Club" for what feels like forever.........HURRY UP NOV.

Looks pretty good.

i wasn't blown away by the trailer............except for the end - that left me wanting more..........we'll be there opening night - so i guess the trailer did it's job.

Too early to judge, however i'm not worried Boyle will def. deliver.

So the film about the "baddest man on the planet" is finally coming out. Can't wait!

the teaser doesnt really give you much to be hype about...and Franco doesnt seem to be doing any different acting than he does in his other films. I respect his work ethic, but I'm not sold on this hype about him being talented. I heard Cillian Murphy and Ryan Gosling were also up for the role. I think I would have preferred either one of them to be in it than Franco.

Well it is a good trailer that's well-edited. But to be honest Danny Boyle is overrated. The only movie I really liked is Sunshine. Will pass this up.
Neal on Aug 25, 2010
This film look's so intresting but the trailer seems to have given it all a way I no that it is based on what happen to Aron Ralston who was all over the news when this happen to him but you no the story, I don't no how they can keep this film so intresting to watch. Would have Rather seen Danny Boyle do something more mainline than Fox Searchlite.

i remember watching Man vs Wild, and Bear grylls was telling this story about some guy gets his hand trapped in the same situation and how he had to cut his own hand off with a Scalpel in order to safe his life, i recon thats how its gonna be. but i think many of my friends will love this movie just from the bike scenes, very nicely shot
PinkSushit on Aug 25, 2010
looks good, going off track here, but I am back at the film that made Danny Boyle...28 days later...anyone know if they are going to make 28 months later?...loved 28 days later..1 of favourite zombie flicks
cregso on Aug 25, 2010
It's very much in the same vein as Touching the Void... I also wonder if he's using the same sound folks as he used for Slumdog as there were some real similarities in there, which isn't a bad thing 🙂 I'll see it on dvd.
dom on Aug 25, 2010
Didn't care for the back-patting opening so much, but the film looks great. Will this end up being more like Gerry or Ladder 49 (Did I just put those two films int he same sentence??)
Joseph on Aug 25, 2010
looks pretty good, i think it'll deliver tho. cant wait to see more trailers though

This looks like the trailer for survivorman on acid.

Got my heart beating a little faster at the end. I'll probably rent it, not a big fan of seeing suspenseful movies in theatre.

Anybody knows What is that song played in the background ? like it.. sounds different..
suresh on Aug 25, 2010
Every time theres a Danny Boyle film I think, this could never work. But he always proves me wrong. I've stopped worrying. The man could probably film a brick wall in an interesting way.
Al on Aug 25, 2010
Not sure of the emotional "high" of the majority of the trailer but the last few seconds were visually spot-on to what happened to Aron Ralston. If Boyle can even come close to the experience, this will be one to remember. If you get a chance view the Dateline interview of Ralston from a few years back. This is one time where the movie will have to ratchet up to the event.

Its Boyle, the trailer was OK at best but Boyle wont let anyone down I know it.
Cody w on Aug 25, 2010
Boyle's movies always look and sound amazing. Nothing more unfortunately.

the song featured in the trailer is "Never Hear Surf Music Again" by Free Blood.

Yep Boyle like the beautiful ones.

ahh I bet there's a 2nd trailer in the wings and will start off from the end of this one.. this one piques the interest, but the 2nd will be the yin to this's yang
ek on Aug 26, 2010
Definitely caught my attention and I want more. Great trailer.
Ellsworth on Aug 27, 2010
Looks gorgeous. In the screenplay, the part with the girls dissipates rather quickly (maybe the first half-hour) because for about an hour, there's no dialogue. The boulder falling seems a bit more cinematic then what actually happened. I think this trailer is for people in theatres who think it'll be some goofy James Franco movie and then the end has a good 180 that'll probably get people interested. If you didn't actually know you were watching the Aaron Ralston story, it would be shocking. This should be a double feature with Buried.
Greedo on Aug 28, 2010
I have not been terribly interested in this, now I really want to see it.

Why don't people doing this kind of thing, I don't know carry a cellphone. Or why don't they tell any one person where they are going and what they are doing. But no this guy has two women with him who obviously should realize he is missing and then go for help... maybe? So the film is about his courageous struggle with time over the next five days as these women go for help? He then chops or gnaws off his arm and decides that moving from where he is will better his chances of being found or maybe he stays put. As hes about to collapse from blood loss, starvation, and or dehydration the helicopter will fly over? And it ends with him waking up in a hospital with the two women fawning over him or news reporters shoving mic's and flashing cameras in his face?
