The Adjustment Bureau Trailer

After a lengthy delay, Universal has finally released a trailer for George Nolfi's The Adjustment Bureau starring Matt Damon and Emily Blunt over on Yahoo. This supernatural-ish romantic drama is based on another Philip K. Dick short story and you'll see how his ideas play into the plot in a big way. Although I was unsure if this would be any good, I think this looks fantastic, maybe just because I'm a sucker for these sci-fi PKD stories, especially when it looks typically modern with a twist (like this). This does look a bit like Alex Proyas' Dark City, at least inspired by it, but I still think it could be awesome. Check out the trailer below.

An affair between a politician and a ballerina is affected by "mysterious forces" keeping the lovers apart.

The Adjustment Bureau is directed by first-time director George Nolfi, who is best known as a screenwriter who wrote the screenplays for Timeline, Ocean's Twelve, The Sentinel, and The Bourne Ultimatum. Nolfi also wrote the script for this film, which is based on the Philip K. Dick short story "Adjustment Team" (you can read more about here). This was supposed to be released this July, but Universal has rescheduled The Adjustment Bureau to hit theaters on March 4th in spring. I am definitely still planning to see this. You?

This looks like what Vanilla Sky should've been. I can't wait to see this.

2

vanilla sky is the copy of an amazing spanish movie called abre los ojos. hollywood didn't have the intelligence to come out with a good story like that

I think it's crap, what is that sci-fi crap and that guy from "the box", he has the same role....

qweqwu on May 12, 2010

4

This trailer is much better than the actual film, unfortunately. the trailer doesn't show all of the terrible attempts at humor that simply fall flat.

looks interesting. not entirely original but interesting all the same.

I'm a big Phillip K. Dick fan, and this actually looks pretty good. I'll see it for sure but probably not in theaters.

Damn, this trailer was fantastic. It's like The Untouchables meets Minority Report. Add this to my most anticipated list for sure.

25

Um don't you mean the other way around? Phillip K. Dick has been dead for a longtime and Dark City, i believe was an "original" screenplay. Seems like the short story this was made from inspired Dark City.

26

Btw 1 if you liked Vanilla Sky check out the original film, Abre Los Ojos, it's way better

This looks really cool. Kinda like a mix of the box and the bourne movies. Really inventive

#24 - I know what you're saying, but I'm referring to the visual style and cinematic interpretation of PKD's story. As in, Nolfi seems heavily inspired by Dark City, although it's based on PKD's short story.

i love the Sunshine soundtrack.

Good point Alex. I see what you're saying.

32

Meh...looks alright I guess. Storyline totally taken from any other ideas, most recent is Fringe.

tra la la la la di da on May 12, 2010

33

Tra la la, it definitely has the baldie guy from Fringe vibe, also the Dark City reference is there and I also seem to remember some film about aliens stealing peoples kids and wiping the parents memories for a laugh. I'll definitely be watching this, it ticks all the geek boxes.

Crapola on May 12, 2010

34

What's the name of the first song in the trailer (played before the song from "Sunshine")?

HG on May 12, 2010

35

1st song is a version of "Breath and Life" by Audio Machine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yjv5B2Pgv_Y&feature=related

Nope on Feb 2, 2011

36

was intrigued and still am. Definetley see similarities to Dark City but I kind of lost the serious vibe when Damon starts checking people in the library at 2:02 in trailer. MRC is a very sketchy studio, and I also see the same style as "The Box" which was also MRC.

KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!!!!!!!!! I LOVE Terrance Stamp! I might see it for him. BUT yes this is an episode of Fringe. They are even dressed the same as the characters... the Watchers except they have HAIR!! Strange coincidence. Maybe JJ Abrams is involved somehow indirectly?!

roke on May 12, 2010

40

People who keep saying they took the idea from Fringe, maybe JUST MAYBE the creators of Fringe took their idea from Philip K Dick, who wrote this short story long before fringe came out. hmmmm.

Amanda on May 13, 2010

41

Just change up a few things from Dark City and you have a new movie...not too sure where we draw the line of "being inspired" and creating a "remake"...looks good though. haha

chilin on May 13, 2010

42

Eff! I wasn't interested until the Sunshine theme by John Murphy was played. That score makes every movie seem amazing. Curse you, trailer people!

SuicidalOptimist on May 13, 2010

That looks insanely good. I got chills.

Rick on May 13, 2010

44

I love Philip K. Dick, and the short story this film is based on is really a great one. Looking at the trailer I'm afraid they won't do it justice.

45

anyone else watch fringe????? ummm...........

ross on May 13, 2010

46

lol @ SuicidalOptimist. So true.. I'll wait for the rotten tomatoes consensus, this could go either way. I do love those actors though. Hmm...

47

This is a really cool concept, it looks well done. Hopefully the film measures up to the trailer.

Guy on May 13, 2010

48

Now this looks sweet. If it's half as nice as the trailer, I'll enjoy it....................................then again, the trailer for X-Men 3 was sweet also. The movie: not so much.

49

This is a proper love movie. Not a chick flick... a love movie. A proper one!

LW on May 13, 2010

50

The knowledge of Phillip K. Dick on this board is starting to worry me, P.K.D Wrote this short long before Fringe was even an idea in someone's head. Read some of his novels, like Flow My Tears The Policeman Said, Ubik, and A Scanner Darkly. Get educated!

Xerxex on May 13, 2010

51

I think this looks interesting....i like the casting and at least it seems to be something with a little more originality than your average sci/fi thriller.

vegasdanny on May 14, 2010

52

I feel that this trailer revealed FAR TOO MUCH, but it's definitely got me hooked. Nice to see Matt Damon in another love-thriller or what'ever you call it.

Ells on May 14, 2010

53

I've never read anything by PKD, but I've seen the movies they've made based on his books and they've all had phenominal storylines. (which says something when you consider most books are better than the movies). The whole concept of a love story wrapped in the theology/philosophy of free will and predestination sounds fantastic to me. Excited for this one even if it gets bad reviews. Story idea is worth the gamble.

All these posts, and not one word concerning the hotness that is Miss Emily Blunt...I mean, geekness is geekness, but come on!!! This looks good, looking forward to it.

Yeah I totally thought dark city when I saw the preview that movie was wickedly good though ,so I'm hoping that the adjustment bureau can gather it's own speed and hopefully capture my imagination .. The worst thing would be comparing the two ... Let's hope it stands well enough on its own..... 😉

Does anyone know the name of the song that is playing in the beginning of the trailer with violins?

Carrie on Mar 11, 2011

hi. i agree with kitanoO. no one is mentioning Emily Blunt and how spectacularly hot she is. That is the only reason I went to this movie. I am biased of course but when i saw the trailer of her LEGS i about had my eyes pop out. her legs in those panty hose turned me on. sorry to bring perv into it but it is true. thats why i keep watching the trailer. 🙂
