2010 The Cinescape

While I was blown away by the Filmography 2010 retrospective earlier this week, our old stand-by Matt Shapiro (known as oyguvaltshappy on YouTube), who started these cinematic retrospectives back in 2006, is back with 2010: The Cinescape. While his film selection isn't quite as expansive as Filmography 2010, Shapiro has carefully edited clips from many films including The Social Network, Black Swan, Tron Legacy and one great cut to Scott Pilgrim vs the World. While his only use of the films' dialogue is an invasion of your auditory senses in the beginning, the song he chose brings all of these to life in a great way.

Here's Matthew Shapiro's retrospective video 2010: The Cinescape:

Along with crediting "A Dustland Fairytale" by The Killers as his song of choice (and a chronological list of all films featured), here's what Shapiro had to say about this year's effort: "I am a huge believer in the notion that while some films may be for adults and others for kids, and while some films may be of higher quality than those aimed at the lowest common denominator, escaping into the world of a film is a universal experience that we all crave, no matter who we are or how greatly our tastes differ. The goal of this video is to at least begin to capture the essence of what that lose-yourself-to-film feeling is like and to show just how many kick-ass movies 2010 gave us (because itโ€™s pretty easy to forget)." I truly love these videos. You too?

I enjoyed the three shots from Narnia 3 Voyage of the Dawn Treader. This was the #2 movie of the year and was much better than Tron Lecacy. Tron Legacy did not deserve to be shown as much as it was because it was much worse than the original.

Very impressive. It makes some of those movies appear better than they are, but overall bravo!
