TRAILERS
Must Watch: J.J. Abrams' Super 8 Official HQ Teaser Trailer!

Source: Apple
After showing in theaters in front of Iron Man 2 this weekend, Paramount has debuted the teaser trailer for J.J. Abrams' secret alien project Super 8 online in high def on Apple. I've seen the trailer (in theaters) and it's a fantastic introduction and perfect tease, just like Cloverfield, and I'm glad it doesn't show more than it does. I'm sure that Abrams won't be showing us what this alien looks like until the movie comes out, and I'm fine with that (although I'm sure it'll be leaked). If you haven't seen this trailer, you should definitely check it out. Oddly, there seems to be extra footage at the end, but I'm not sure if it has to do with the viral or not.
Watch the official teaser trailer for J.J. Abrams' Super 8:
You can also watch the trailer for Super 8 in High Definition on Apple
Super 8 (which is supposedly a tentative title) is written and directed by visionary director J.J. Abrams, who started his career with "Lost" & "Alias" before directing Mission: Impossible III and Star Trek last summer. This is being produced by Steven Spielberg with a budget of ~$50 million and hasn't even started shooting. Abrams will film this in the next months, most likely in complete secrecy, so I'm not sure when we'll see the next trailer. According to early reports, this is inspired by Spielberg's films of the 70's and 80's. Paramount will be releasing Super 8 in theaters everywhere sometime next summer in 2011 (a date has not been set).

that looks fucking excellent.

would a train derail if it hit a pick up truck head on? there are videos out there that would imply no looks pretty good though, but as this movie hasn't even shot maybe this has nothing to do with it and is just a red herring
Janny on May 11, 2010
3
@ janny nope a train would never ever derail just because of a lausy pick up truck and there wouldnt be a crazy explosion after the crash. but it's a movie about an alien, so anything goes =) well it is a good looking trailer, not more...definately not hyped...yet.
Patrick on May 11, 2010

The explosion looked ridiculous to me! Let's see what they can give us. I'm more excited for Spielberg than JJ Abrams, I didn't like Cloverfield.
Ricardo on May 11, 2010
5
janny , i dont think someone would drive a truck head on either lol what if its like a secret cult that knows whats in the train and decides one person should derail with a bomb strapped to the engine of the truck......thats just my theory as to how this movie may play out lol sound retarded, i know

@ # 3 Yeah I thought wtf with that part about the train/truck collision too but as you say,"... its a movie about an alien so anything goes"... indeed! This promises much but that aside, what a great trailer! I just hope that they dont release too much, I want to be surprised! Good or bad!

only on this website would some dipshit try and evaluate the physics of a truck hitting a train and then calculate the explosion radius and probability....fucking hipsters...

10
@9 LMFAO I hate when people over evaluate shit like that. But honestly I am stoked about this movie and I know JJ said this has nothing to do with Cloverfield but come on..JJ is a master in trickery so I am still hoping it is some how Cloverfield related or just another dope alien movie.

There's nothing wrong with commenting on how absolutely ludicrous the collision was. I don't like things that fly directly in the face of common logic and don't expect people to pick up on it. I know this is a movie but the laws of physics should still apply in the loosest sense.
Dean on May 11, 2010

The most relevant thing here is: a collaboration between Spielberg and Spielberg Jr. (AKA J.J. Abrams). Those names along are kind of a guarentee of a great film! Ok, just forget Indiana Jones 4 and the mess "Lost" is right now...

I love how people go "that's not possible." Who cares what the plot is, it's a movie, anything is possible. Stop setting limits for yourself people.

maybe the person driving the truck knew what was in it since it so happens to drive where the train is so maybe the person driving the truck did something to it or maybe it was an alien who knows?

This doesn't look that good. I'm tired of JJ's b.s. mysterious movies. $100 says the alien will look really really stupid. And those train wreck effects looked crappy. Also: #18, LOL
Cracky on May 11, 2010
27
@24 It's a face and then a crazy image... looks like the train wreck sort of, but only BEFORE the train wreck happens. Somebody needs to put this thing into a program and play it frame by frame.
Hedgehog on May 11, 2010
28
@21 Lolno. They already have the "Sanctioned" hulk movie, and there is no way masters such as Abrams(Master of ARGs) and Spielberg(Of Sci-fi) would make a hulk movie now, especially with the avengers. At first, I thought it might have to do with What's in the box, especially after I saw JJ Abrams, but probably not.

Odd name for a movie like this.
BoxOfficeZ on May 11, 2010

The beginning darkened horizon and star field made me think "E.T.", which was followed by the train track and warning light/bell which is right out of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." I was getting pretty jazzed, then there was the derailment and loosening of whatever was in the boxcar...pffft. The beginning had Spielberg all over it, but with usual wild abandon it went Abrams...so, not sure what to think...except more of the former and less of the latter?

Remember War of the Worlds? Lots of really great internet trailers that made it look really creepy and really good? And the film itself? Blew f*cking goats. Just saying...

Looks like a scene from a low budget scifi film. Whoopee doo. @Imagination A hipster wouldn't waste their time with a bunch of film geeks discussing a mainstream blockbuster film, they are out having fun, wearing skinny jeans and growing stupid moustaches while riding fixed gear bikes to their friends tattoo parlour to have a skull put on their neck, then to the freight yard to hop all the way across the states to another hipster party where there are even more fixed gear bikes and people with moustaches and tattoos listening to live music and creating hip art and having more sex than you ever will. Get with the program.

it is possible to derail a train with a collision fom the truck at that speed. trains can be derailed from alot less, all it needs is one wheel off and it starts to topple. (I know of two or three cane haulers that have derailed from a collision with a stationary sedan on a level crossing, and a cane train is about the same size as that engine) Also it's an old truck with the fuel tank behind the cabin, compression of the engine would cause pressure and explode the fuel tank. believe it or not, it is possible. and it is an air force train, they could have been carrying fuel or bombs in the other carriages, hence the major after-explosions.

nice. ima have to check it out to see what its about... thats how people in the movie business make money, specially abrams. regardless if its good or not, it'll make alot of money. but with spielberg attached, it was to be good.

i thought cloverfield was a HUGE disappointment. i don't need to go any further than the first 30+ minutes where NOTHING happened but a stupid birthday party. i don't understand why anybody thought it was a good movie. that being said - this is a good teaser........it gets me interested. however, it doesn't give any indication as to what the movie will be like. i'll reserve judgement till i see a trailer.........hopefully it WON'T be another cloverfield.

yes, good teaser....and yes, lets see more Speilberg and how about NO ABRAMS!!! it would actually be worth waiting for if they dump St.JJ...definately caught the CE3K bits in there....Cloverfield sucked balls...waste of time....

Lame...as I said before. The effects look horrible and if it can spin off the wheel why is it punching the door off? That's a simple stupid without much thought and taking this a bit deeper than it needs but never the less Cloverfield's trailer was...for everyone here since they loved this gay movie so much...Avatar compare to this which is...IJ4. lol While I'll see it...not sure why, curiosity, this trailer was lame but has potential. Unlike Cloverfield I will watch future trailers.

Hmm I liked Cloverfield. I like the documentary style. it gives realism to the story and the creature or whatever it is. This looks pretty good but Im suprised its another creature/alien flick. He did that with Cloverfield so what is this mystery creature going to be? Will it be over the top CGI rendering artificial and fake? Or will it be more documentary style ala Cloverfield/District 9?
JimD on May 11, 2010
45
I agree with 44...I didn't see any extra footage and I've watched the trailer a dozen times. Care to elaborate about this "extra footage" Alex?
peloquin on May 11, 2010
46
@ Janny Actually, yes it "could" derail. It's happened before. If a vehicle hits a train parts from the vehicle can become dislodged beneath the train and cause a derailing. However, not to the extent seen in the trailer. A train derailing does not happen to that extent. It's slower...methodical in movement...Think of a train slipping off the track as opposed to exploding off the track. Now, if there were 10 cases of grenades in the back of that truck, or some C4 strapped to the front then yes...It would happen like that...Maybe. Looks interesting. JJ has talent for story-telling. Kind of like his producer. 😉
Quanah on May 11, 2010

its not the hulk ass butt. just like everyone thought cloverfield was godzilla. just shut up and be teased until the movie comes out. now it wouuld make sense if it was the mother of the cloverfield monster seeing as though they kept saying its was a child. see thats how you think correctly. the hulk smh. since when does a treain contain the hulk?

Did anyone else notice the hidden frame that flashes 14 sec. in. If you pause it there is something but I cant make it out. He does that a lot just like in Cloverfield how's there's a flash of the original King Kong after the helicopter crash.

i bet the alien or whatever somehow manipulated the driver to cause the crash muhaahaha

From what I've read elsewhere this trailer has nothing to do with the actual movie. The actual movie is a bunch of kids filming with a "Super 8" camera in the 70's. They see some kind of monster. It will be shot like Cloverfield from that perspective.

what the heck happened 1.why would a pickup truck just drive into the traintracks 2. why would the whole frickin' train explode and derail of course it's a movie and all but at least make it make sense. anyways i need to see more to actually say if i'm excited for this or not

that was the most ridiculously stupid thing i have ever seen. the effects were terrible not to mention the fact that somehow the train apparently hit a wall of kryptonite and then its load of explosives somehow all exploded at once while simultaneously being jacked up by the tornado you forgot about on the side. thats the only explanation to what could cause what i just regretably saw...

Wow, ok i am kinda intrigued and definetely woul love to see more with this projects developments. 😀 from now on some personal thoughts regarding narrative.. so you may read at your own risk 😛 Did it occur to anyone else that the trailers nowadays are all missing that great toned, deeply captivating narrative since that guy has passed on. 🙁 and i am really sorry i forgot the name and in no way i mean any disrespect whatsoever, i just forgot :(...i really loved his voice and it made the trailers so much richer... i love watching trailers. i collect Bluray, divx filmsas well as trailers 😀 and before i watch a movie i watch at least 4-5 trailers. so i really miss his touch to the trailers. all those written narrative is not the same as his voice. Rest in peace man... i think hollywood also knows that its not gonna be the same without your voice so they dont even bother...somethngs are really irreplacable (at least spoken narrative is not as much as it used to be, some trailers still do i think because i cant think of a name right away.....) ... just wanted to share what came to my mind

i think it will be a robot or something dumb like that. Since its called "super 8" and at the end pulled through a camamera lens, i'm think another cloverfeild peice of crap. i dunno maybe ill be surprised, but J.J.'s sense of storytelling is like a five year olds. they give you the middle of the story and forget the rest.

It's funny how people who hated Cloverfield are commenting on this trailer.....that is kind of peculiar. ANYWAY, the name is Super 8 which is the kind of hand-held video cameras that were available during the 70's and the kind seen on the movie's website. Not a coincidence. The movie looks like it starts or takes place during the 70's. Therefore, how can you compare trucks and trains today with those from the 70's? You can't. I don't think they used the same train engines today as they did in the 70's. Anything is possible.
