Hereafter Trailer

It is definitely a year for dark, psychological thrillers. Warner Bros has debuted the official trailer for Clint Eastwood's Hereafter, the supernatural thriller starring Matt Damon as a guy who can speak with ghosts. Yes, that's part of the plot, and no that's not a spoiler. In addition to Damon, this stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Richard Kind, Jay Mohr, Cécile De France and Frankie/George McLaren as the little kid. I'm really not sure what to make of this. I usually enjoy Eastwood's films, but this time I'm not sure if this is actually something he should've tackled, maybe Eastwood should stay out of the supernatural realm. I'm not sure… Thoughts?

A supernatural thriller centered on three people -- a blue-collar American, a French journalist (de France) and a London school boy (both Frankie & George McLaren) -- who are touched by death in different ways.

Hereafter is directed by legendary Oscar winning actor/filmmaker Clint Eastwood, of great like The Rookie, Unforgiven, Space Cowboys, Blood Work, Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, Flags of Our Fathers, Letters from Iwo Jima, Changeling, Gran Torino and Invictus most recently. The screenplay was written by Oscar nominated British screenwriter Peter Morgan, of The Last King of Scotland, The Queen, Frost/Nixon and The Damned United. Warner Bros is bringing Hereafter to theaters on October 22nd this fall. Thoughts?

It's a Clint's movie right? Will be good.

Clint Eastwood? No brainer--of course I'll check it out.

Looks terrific. I have no idea why you would express uncertainty about this. Eastwood is an amazingly versatile director. He skips from genre to genre & adapts to each like a damn chameleon. This doesn't look as though it'll be any different. October 22 can't come soon enough.

Clint 'Midas' Eastwood is amazingly talented. I'll watch this regardless of reviews.

I'm not one to second guess, nor doubt Clint Eastwood with this flick. It looks pretty intriguing and amazing! Eastwood is a true talent that transcends genres and come October 22, all that skepticism will be wiped out. I will be checkin' this flick out! 🙂

Yeah this looks interesting. I think Eastwood is good, but he's only adaptable because he's kind of predictable. His main character is always in a dark place and is transformed via realizing his purpose in life in some dramatic fashion. The one thing that bugs me in this preview is the story's reliance on big news events like the tsunami and subway bombings. In one way it makes it more appealing, but I'm just not a fan when films play on fears that are playing out around the world in order to put drama into entertainment.

This looks like what a sequel to The Sixth Sense would look like.

intense and emotional - i loved it..................alex, what's not to like here? #8 - i didn't feel the trailer relied on "big news" at all. what hooked me was the emotional baggage of each character..........i want to know more! and what are you talking about when you say: "but I'm just not a fan when films play on fears that are playing out around the world in order to put drama into entertainment" - the movie appears to be addressing what lies beyond this life - NOT the fears that exist IN it. i didn't find it sensationalistic at all.

you know I was losing faith in Eastwoods directing ability...I mean Gran Torino was mediocre at best, and Invictus was sappy...but his looks like a return to form from Eastwood. I'm in.

Christ, allow me to reach for a razor blade and slit my wrists. How depressing. Maybe Clint's thinking about this kind of stuff - as he pushes 100.

Eastwood is an Iconic in my book! I love his dark moralistic vibes. Will this be perfect? NO. Will it be Eastwood? YES! Nuff Said

McWilly on Sep 10, 2010

This looks like it has the same heavy emotional lever as Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, Letters from Iwo Jima. And I think this movie could be just as good as those.

25

Question: Who here would watch a Judd Apatow movie starring Clint Eastwood?

LW on Sep 10, 2010

26

I'm excited to see Clint try to expand his genre horizons with something completely different! It still speaks of his characters' usual habits or mannerisms or inherent moral struggle, but he goes beyond the grit of the world to whatever may lie in the next. And does anyone think maybe this is a very personal story for Clint, who is aging himself, and perhaps is part of his own ponderance on the hereafter(pardon the pun)? The performance Clint has been able to pull out of Damon looks like it'll be matched here. Definitely looking forward to this!

Scotty97 on Sep 10, 2010

27

People are going a little overboard in this comments section here. Clint Eastwood can be a great filmmaker (and Unforgiven in particular is one of the greatest movies ever), but some of you are pretending like he's one of THE great filmmakers, which is not the case. Flags of Our Fathers was glacially paced and horribly acted, Invictus was pretty much a made-for-TV movie, and Changeling was Oscar-baity schlock. I hope Hereafter is great, but there's no guarantee whatsoever.

Looks very interesting and well done. I will be seeing this, although I think I know how it plays by the trailor. The Sunami part looks terrifying.

Eastwood is dependable. He may not be one of the greatest directors of all time, but you know when you watch one of his movies you aren't going to walk away think this movie was terrible. So I look forward to seeing it.

OMG, that's the ish* It also includes the events in London (Besides the tsunami) , to make it worldwide and draw more people of course, but it's so awesome...especially @ the end It extends upon may more continents and so much the better...Another smash hit as it is loaded with emotions

Human brain has a fatal flaw: it can support the firm belief that some fairytales are true. The fairytales (our false sense of entitlement, superiority and seperateness from ourselves and nature sprung from our false religions and the incurable addiction to fossil fuels) lead us toward selfdestruction. Our fantasy is falling apart "as we speak". And Mr Eastwood in his autumn years serves us a feel-good "emotional" nonsense about the "paranormal" that further perpetuates our pet illusions. There's no hope.

Marty on Sep 11, 2010

33

Visual effects don't look THAT amazing, but it's an Eastwood, so I'm excited.

Robbie on Sep 11, 2010

34

Marty. Yet, we deny the fact that there are billions, if not trillions, of other stars, systems, and planets--But we still can't find other intelligent life. We can look at a simple tree and know that in all its simplicity it serves a greater purpose to every thing on this planet. We can analyze a complex ecosystem and see that when we, humankind, tamper with it the entire ecosystem begins to fall apart. We forget that every single thing we see, and can't see, is made up of complex, finite, atomic particles; each one is programmed to serve a specific purpose--Whether to be air or to be steal. We can all sit back and pretend that's science, or evolution, or mother nature. However, complexities don't happen by accident. Life is not part of some type of cosmic faux pas. There's a reason why we can't find all the answers. There a reason why science consistently reinvents itself and changes its opinions on the why and why not. The purpose is simple: take care of each other. Until we do, we will continue to fail, the hopeless will continue to think there's nothing, the hopeless will point and laugh at those who believe and know, and we will just shake our heads and feel pity. Good luck Marty. Movie looks good. I trust Mr. Eastwood Alex, so should you.

@ ModernAmericanMan : You the ish and I love what you said. Selfishness is what prevent people from evolving... ~@~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Come on Alex, you guys think you can stop my comments with your little editing on your little webbie? NOPE! loll! you guys are funny fools . lloll! As I said before, you don't feel this movie because it does not support your beliefs, it has nothing to do with Eastwood talent, Thanks Goodness for that ! that's the truth, otherwise why would you edit my comments? loll! You stupid and naughty fool! lolll! The same goes for all the ones who don't feel this movie, it contradicts your inner beliefs and you reject it altogether for that. loll! I know the Truth hurts, stop bleeding. and as I am sure you've noticed,SPIELBERG is one of the producers, so it will be finer!

Eastwood is one of the greatest directors of all time. Definitly i'm in. I'm sorry for those who don't liked Gran Torino or Invictus.

53

looks like shit. let's scare the hell out of people but comfort them knowing dead people they love will always be with them. great entertainment. Somebody please tell me what is so incredible about Eastwood. Is it because he's old and directed one really good film and was Dirty Harry (which all really sucked by the way)? And what is so great about Damon? Oceans 11 and Bourne movies (which resembled a frat boy pretending to be an action hero). However, if they show tit and ass, I'll see it.

Everyone here seems to be excited because it was directed by Clint Eastwood. People should be more excited about film content, story and the actors who presnt the movie. They are the ones presenting the film to us. Eastwood has not had alot of large grossing movies nor is he a great producer - but the actors he has chosen have been spectacular ones. They have won Oscars for their prsentations - Eastwood didn't make them great actors - they came into his films that way. So, Eastwood would not be a reason for me to go see a film. Seeing Matt Damon's performance - if it looks promising in other trailers, etc. - would be. I didn't care for Matt Damon in Invictus at all, I felt he had been mis-cast. In that movie I felt Eastwood had chosen his lead poorly. Maybe, Brad Pitt or Sean Penn ( with more acting chops ) would have done a much more emotional job. I will have to wait and see more to judge whether I will see it based on Matt Damon's performance.

Annonymous on Sep 27, 2010

57

Excellent film! Splendidly conceived and directed. Like Matt Damon's character, I am a "medium," and the film portrays what the real-time experience can be. It is not a film that will whet the American appetite for instant gratification. It contains elements of mystery, and the question I always want to ask my fellow Americans, "Why are we afraid to walk into a mystery?"

Joseph Dumas on Oct 25, 2010

58

Only 3% of the great actors ever become a director and has the kind of impact Clint Eastwood has in Hollywood. He makes us look inside ourselves where most people do not want to go. Humanness can be a scary place.
