I Am Love Trailer

What a fantastic way to kick off the day. Magnolia Pictures recently debuted the official US trailer for Luca Guadagnino's I Am Love, aka Io Sono L'amore in Italian, in high defintion on Apple. Although this stars Tilda Swinton, this is definitely not a mainstream flick, it's a very Italian independent film, but boy does it look very good. This is an absolutely incredible trailer that's elegant and intricate. I'm already entirely sold on seeing this even though I missed it as so many festivals before. If you're into Italian cinema at all, this is for you. I totally love the music in this, too! I think I'll just let the trailer speak for itself - watch and enjoy!

I Am Love is written and directed by Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, also of Melissa P. It tells the story of the wealthy Recchi family, whose lives are undergoing drastic changes. Eduardo Sr., the family patriarch, names a successor to the reigns of his massive industrial company, surprising everyone by splitting power between his son Tancredi, and grandson Edo. At the heart of the family is Tancredi's wife Emma (Swinton), a Russian immigrant who has adopted the culture of Milan, but she ends up in a passionate love affair with Edo's friend and partner Antonio. I Am Love hits limited US theaters starting on June 18th this summer.

Looks hilarious. Like a perfume ad stretched out into an arty soft porn film, with subtitles to make it seem high brow. I love watching rich people do rich people stuff, it' so interesting.

I misread the title and thought there was a new movie called "I Am In Love with Tilda Swinton."

The trailer doesn't really inspire to me to see it, but Tilda is really good so I'd see it based on that.

Really? What´s so great on this? Why this is a amazing trailer? The music is ok, but the history looks like a mexican novel. There is nothing new in a betrail's history. Can someone help me on this?

Saw this at Sundance. Very melodramatic, but that was the point. Definitely worth seeing.

Saw this at CinemaArts festival, and Tilda did a Q&A afterwards, people were praising the movie but it wasn't close anything great. I loved John Adams music but the whole movie felt misguided, we never got to understand any of the characters.

This will be playing at the AFI Dallas International Film Festival in a few days so you Texas residents can see it. Word from our jury screening is that it is awesome! In other news, I'm really amazed to learn that Tilda does actually speak fluent Italian (not just memorizing her lines)...that makes her so much hotter:)

Alex - you'd hate this film for the exact reasons why I loved this one. I sense you are moving to the dark side 🙂

Sorry but Tilda Swinton makes me sick...she's just so a-sexual..ever since i saw her in Constantine..i cant tell if she's a man or a woman or somewhere in between...she's just got such an odd look and way of carrying herself..it ruins any movies she's in....i was even grossed out by her in the Beach way back when dont think i'll see this one

Jesus...I, too, though the title of the movie was "I am in Love with Tilda Swinton." The title alone made me throw up just a little in my mouth. I'm sure this will be good....for someone.

Wow, these comments are a truly frustrating read. @3 Do you know anything about Tilda Swinton's career? She is and always has been an art film actress who has more recently branched out into the mainstream, partly so that she could continue to finance European art films that weren't likely to make much of a profit. She's always made films like this, way before she started making money in Hollywood. @20 The word you're looking for is androgyny, and the fact that you're grossed out by even the slightest hint of it doesn't diminish Tilda Swinton's immense beauty or talent.

What the fuck did I just witness?

nem on Apr 6, 2010

24

@ John H. Of course I know what Tilda Swinton does, a friend of mine is actually making a micro budget 'art film' with her at some point in the future, serious. You can dress up your soft porn as art if you like, but some stuff is just indulgent. I'm all for independent European films, I watched Gomorrah the other night, which took a slightly different look at Italian life and really enjoyed it, but it was slightly more low key and had a lot more shellsuits than you would find in 'I am in Love'.

Crapola on Apr 7, 2010

25

@24 I guess I just misread "I love watching rich people do rich people stuff, it' so interesting." I figured by "rich people" you meant Tilda, and by "rich people stuff" you meant "act in pretentious Italian 'art films.'" I guess I'm just way too defensive. Anyway, I think Antonioni showed that rich people doing rich people stuff is valid subject matter. Though, whether or not one's made an interesting movie of it is another matter. Haven't seen the movie; am trying to glean from your comments whether or not you have. I'd like to know: from what you've seen, do you think that it's actually intended as softcore porn? Like, with the intent and purpose of getting one's dick hard?

John H. on Apr 7, 2010

Yeesh. Appears akin to a veritable snooze fest. Though, I do enjoy a good snooze fest now and then.

bozo on Apr 8, 2010

That trailer makes it seem like WOW. I'm itching to see it now for sure, that and I think Swinton is a great actress who is underrated due to her odd appearance which strikes me as interetsing.
