The American Trailer

Focus Features has quietly debuted a second new teaser trailer on IMDb (found via Awards Daily) for their upcoming Anton Corbijn directed thriller The American starring George Clooney as a hitman on his last assignment in Italy. This trailer is a lot more fast-paced, intense, and action-packed than the first teaser that debuted in May. However, I'm wondering why there is so much shooting if it's supposedly his last mission, but I guess we'll find out eventually. I'm looking forward to this because it's Corbijn and Clooney, I just hope it's a great movie, not just another forgettable hitman flick. So check it out and let us know what you think?

The American is directed by Dutch visual artist and filmmaker Anton Corbijn, whose only other feature film was Control from 2007, but he's directed numerous music videos as well. The script was written by Rowan Joffe (of Last Resort and 28 Weeks Later) and is based on Martin Booth's novel A Very Private Gentleman. This was shot independently by Corbijn both in Italy and Sweden last year and is being distributed by Focus Features in the US. The American will arrive in theaters starting on Wednesday, September 1st in the fall.

Cant wait for this! 2 Finnish actors at least in it 😀 Weak trailer indeed though.

Clooney rarely lets the audience down but as much as I wanted to like this it just left me feeling meh. I mean a professional hitter using a weak rifle like a Mini 14? A monstrous scope on an innacurate rifle? Lame. The Bourne Identity was better with the cheap farmers double barreled shotgun when he killed Clive Owen.

yea, #7....i'm probably one of five people who aren't afraid to say : " i don't think GC is a great actor". i liked him in "men who stare at goats" and "burn after reading". but i think he's better at comedy than other roles. a more serious role he seems kind of corny.........tell me you watched that and saw an experienced hitman. DeNiro/ neeson could have pulled that off much better. just an opinion.

Okay the trailer was passable, I liked the first one a lot more. I'm really looking forward to this because I do enjoy Clooney as well as Focus Features has not once let me down with what they do. The biggest drawback to the trailer is that it's got the priest narrating in the background then all of a sudden a Don LaFontaine knock off interrupting the flow with his shpeel. They could have done a lot better but as it stands I'm still really looking forward to this film.

Personally I'm looking forward to it. Clooney in my opinion always delivers.

Yeah, they could have done away with the voiceover in the end.

@12, I totally agree. The trailer was just okay, but it went straight to weak-sauce when the voice-over started. The movie looks like it could be good, but this trailer was horrible.
