Disney has just debuted the trailer for Don Hahn's wonderful Disney Animation documentary Waking Sleeping Beauty that I've been talking plenty about since seeing it at the Telluride Film Festival last year (read my review). It's an incredible documentary, probably my favorite of 2010 (and 2009), and this trailer captures some of that magic. But, of course, you have to see the entire thing to get the full story. I can't say enough good things about this and I hope everyone makes it their goal to eventually see this. "We went from hitting rock bottom to creating the most successful films ever. This is the story of how we got there." Enjoy!

Waking Sleeping Beauty is directed by Disney producer Don Hahn and features a behind-the-scenes look at Disney Animation during that 10 year period and what they had to go through to make movies. Beyond that, it has a fascinating look at the power struggle between then-Disney execs Jeffrey Katzenberg, Michael Eisner and Roy E. Disney (who passed away recently). This is, hands down, a must see documentary for anyone that loves Disney or anyone that wants to see a honest and intimate look at the world of Disney Animation. Disney is bringing Waking Sleeping Beauty to limited theaters starting on March 26th this spring. See it!

I'm sick of Disney sucking it's own tit. Enough of the documentaries about themselves and how great they think they were. I personally think the animation from the last 30 years has been sub par, with terrible draftsmanship and animation . There's been a few good animators, one is Eric Goldberg and the other is James Baxter because the two of them were actually trained by Richard Williams. Glen Keane and Adreas Deja are not good draftsmen and animate like they are winging it, not really knowing what they are doing if only Disney hired a veteran to train them, I don't know maybe it should of been... ..Richard Williams!!!!

Being an animation Bachelor graduate (I'm a prof. storyboard artist) and kid at heart, especially for Disney, I got goosebumps watching this. Those I went to school with and I as well as anyone with a love for those Disney films in their heart I'm sure are going to be ACHING to see this! 🙂 I really look forward to seeing the hardships they experienced and what some of the most well-known names in animation were like just starting out. Bring it on!!

I mean, let's face it - is it really possible for a mega-corporation like Disney to ever hit rock bottom? Call me fascinated, but on another hand this was made by the producers of the films it pertains to show the making of so - little bit unobjective, could you say? Don't get me wrong, Mermaid, Lion King, Pocahontas, etc. etc. They'd make great plots for epic CGI Sci Fi movies. 😉
