Natalie Portman and Jeunet Interested in Edgy Snow White?

Back in June we heard about and edgy reimagining of Snow White from writer Melisa Wallack, Relativity Media and producer Brett Ratner. Now the project has the attention of some interesting talent in front of and behind the camera, though at this point nothing is a done deal and should be regarded only as rumor. Pajiba says Natalie Portman, who is receiving enormous buzz for her performance in Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan, has expressed interest in playing Snow White while Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amelie) has an eye towards directing. And in case you forgot, Ratner said, "This is not your grandfather's Snow White."
Apparently the new take includes more from the classic folk tale that was left out of Disney's animated adaptation. The story still includes the witch poisoning Snow White with an apple, but it will also see the seven dwarves as robbers and have a dragon. Few details about the script are known, but if a visually striking and stylistic director like Jeunet is circling the project and Natalie Portman is at least somewhat interested, then it certainly sounds like it has a lot of potential. For now, nothing is set in stone, but since the fairytale re-imagining was picked up for a decent amount of cash in June, surely we'll see some solid development sooner than later. What do you think?

This sounds cool & Im all for the more adult twisted version of Fairy Tales but this was already done in 1998 with Monica Keena in the lead & Siguorney Weaver as the stepmother.

"Edgy"... Probably just means an eight-way, with the dwarves. I'll pass.

With the right director and a good actress the concept could be great. I'd love to see Portman and Jeunet team up for Snow White!

Interesting how she passed up on the Snow White version with 7 kung fu monks as the seven dwarves.

Amelie is highly overrated so I'll definitely pass on this one seeing as that's Jeaunet's only real claim to fame (unless you count Alien Resurrection).

Eh, what? Robbers and dragons? I love the idea of Jeunet doing this but don't believe the crap Ratner spews. I've read the Grimm brothers story and there isn't any freaking dragon "that was left out of the disney version." There was pig killings though and a queen that wanted to eat Snow White's heart, and it turns into a revenge story in the end.

i really hope we’ll finally get to see the evil queen dancing to her death in red hot iron shoes, like in the original grimm’s story ending!
