Official Plot Synopsis for Inception Sheds New Light on its Story

Inception

We almost never ever write up posts about plot synopses that are released by studios, simply because I find them droll and unexciting and no one wants to read some formulated text, especially when we can watch a trailer. But the moment I heard about Christopher Nolan's Inception I knew I'd be writing about this synopsis one day, because it's the first time we actually get a good idea of what Inception is about. Although we've heard Nolan explain that it's about dreams and seen a few great trailers, this synopsis from Warner Bros finally explains the central plot surrounding DiCaprio's character. And there are no spoilers either!

Acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan directs an international cast in an original sci-fi actioner that travels around the globe and into the intimate and infinite world of dreams. Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a skilled thief, the absolute best in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state, when the mind is at its most vulnerable. Cobb's rare ability has made him a coveted player in this treacherous new world of corporate espionage, but it has also made him an international fugitive and cost him everything he has ever loved. Now Cobb is being offered a chance at redemption. One last job could give him his life back but only if he can accomplish the impossible—inception. Instead of the perfect heist, Cobb and his team of specialists have to pull off the reverse: their task is not to steal an idea but to plant one. If they succeed, it could be the perfect crime. But no amount of careful planning or expertise can prepare the team for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. An enemy that only Cobb could have seen coming. This summer, your mind is the scene of the crime.

If you haven't seen them, watch the first teaser trailer and second teaser trailer for Inception at those links. We'll definitely let you know whenever any trailers show up online for Inception, so stay tuned right here!

Inception is both written and directed by acclaimed Oscar nominated British filmmaker Christopher Nolan, of Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins, The Prestige and The Dark Knight. Nolan previously co-wrote the scripts for Memento, Batman Begins, The Prestige, and The Dark Knight with his brother Jonathan Nolan. Warner Bros is bringing Inception to theaters starting on July 16th this summer. See you all in theaters!

This sounds incredible. If anyone can pull off a movie this complex it's Christopher Nolan.

I don't want to know too much going into the movie. I'm not reading the synopsis.

Sounds like it could be either tremendously great or really cheesy. Given Nolan's other films I'm hoping for greatness.

Dom Cobb......are you serious?!

I'm almost certain that this movie will be good, but it's just not the type of movie I can get excited for. Not to mention I can't stand DiCaprio.

I said this months ago and it looks like its going to play out as i thought. Just because nolan is involved in a movie doesn't mean its going to be a huge hit. It will no doubt make money, it will no doubt be great. However, it doesn't have the appeal that batman as a franchise has and won't be as well liked/recieved. I will be there on opening day, but don't count on every person under the sun doing the same.

You know, i used to think this was gonna be some really awesome, serious minblowing movie. Then i read that, and it just sounds so corny.

@8 - i still havent read it yet fearing for just that. heh. but then again, maybe it'll set my expectations lower so i can actually be blown away when i see it.

guys guys guys...you're expectations for this movie have fallen because of a synopsis? lets not forget what every single actor involved in the film have said about it...its highly intricate, highly complex, but at the same time doesnt lose touch with sincere human emotions JGL recently put out a video on his site where he makes mention of Inception and the way his face lights up as he takes a moment to himself and then proceeds to say "its a reaaaallly good movie" is priceless

Look, this is a story from the guy who wrote Memento and pulled it off beautifully. The way I see it, you didn't get Memento, you're not going to get Inception. As long as we have the likes of Chris Nolan, movies that require actual thinkng will stay around while this 3D eys candy crap temporarily take over the screens. It's times like this that Hollywood needs all the Chris Nolans and Dicaprios that they can get just to maintian a proper balance.

Oh my God. I can't wait to see that my favorite director has done it again!! Sounds flipping sa-weet!!

#7, What's your point? Of course it doesn't have the appeal of Batman. No one said it did. I don't get the motivation behind your inane and useless post. Also, anyone that has their expectations lowered by a goddamn 200 word synopsis probably typed by a Warner Bros. intern, especially for a film of this pedigree, is fuckin crazy.

For some reason everytime I see an article about this movie I get the feeling it will be the best movie Ive ever seen.

Oh my god. Can't wait for this movie. Most anticipated for sure

@ 15 Exactly. What's the problem here? That sounds pretty damn awesome and ORIGINAL to me. That synopsis was made for the non-geeks, who, when they see the TV spots and trailers, say to themselves, "Hmmm, that looks cool, I wanna see what it's about." They then go online to a mainstream online movie service like Moviefone or Fandango, to read the plot description, that is generic and purposely made to be over-dramatic to entice, again, the NON-GEEKS to see this movie. Do you idiots remember this is Christopher Nolan we're talking about? Doesn't anyone else notice this? I FEEL LIKE I'M TAKING CRAZY PILLS!!

Sounds intriguing to got a lot of Mission Impossible in that having to plant idea instead of stealing one.

I am waiting for this since day one. I am a huuughe fan of Christopher Nolan, and I truly believe the guy is a genius. The whole idea blew me away, but mostly the part of "planting the idea, not stealing it". The story itself is original as hell, and on top of that, there is a twist to it!!

The Synopsis sound epic, i will keep an eye on this movie for sure.

#7 - Mike What does that prove? That you're an idiot? Of course it doesn't have the appeal of a Batman movie you moron, it's audience is earned, not inherited. #8 - Darunia Corny? Like taking your screenname from a Legends of Zelda character?

DAMMIT I READ IT
